We've had a bit of a challenge recently with the rough weather. Our Ice Cream Bean tree started dropping limbs and on closer inspection, was rotting in the middle of the trunk, making it dangerous and meant it had to come down.

Our lovely friends at Arbor Aid dealt with the tree in no time at all, ensuring the vegetable garden underneath was undamaged, and chipped all the limbs for mulch around the gardens. Can't recommend these guys highly enough!!

And the wet weather has allowed some time for the final bedroom to be painted!! So exciting to achieve that milestone!!! Looking back at what we have achieved so far is very satisfying. Looking forward to finishing a bathroom next!!

These awesome folks of Taskforce Kiwi - volunteers from all around Aotearoa, have been here in Whangarei staying just down the road from us in our local marae at Ngararaitunua, while they go and slog their hearts out helping the people of Oakura and surrounds after the recent weather events.

When we learned of this we invited them up for a meal and a relax from what must be really tough mahi. These guys give their time to help others and we were honoured to give something back.

This is a volunteer organisation,so if you think you might like to help, get in touch with Taskforce Kiwi direct through their page.

We’ve had a busy few days! 💨 So far this year, it’s been all about the doors at The Old Windsor:
* ✅ Taken down
* 🎨 Freshly painted
* 🪛 New latches fitted
* ✨ Back on the hinges
One step closer to getting the place exactly where we want it! 🚪🥂

Shout out to Nic of Guardian Mobile Locks for his expertise fitting the door latches!!!

Shout out to Rhema Sutherland who has given us permission to share this photo of her and her Dad Gilbert. Dad helped the original owners here at Ngararaitunua, Doug and Elizabeth Berry, to create the magic and make this place the wonderful place it was and the place we are striving to recreate. Thank you!!

What a difference trees and time makes!

🚧 **Room 13 Revamp: From Rubbish to Radiance!** 🧹🎨

Just a couple of videos showing the progress. This room, like many others in The Old Windsor, was a dumping ground—full of rubbish, damage, and forgotten corners. But with a lot of elbow grease and vision, it’s now got a fresh, clean look that’s finally starting to feel like a space with purpose.

🛠️ Repairs were no joke—walls needed patching, surfaces needed sanding, and every inch needed love. The painting is almost complete and already making a huge difference. Still plenty to do, but the progress is real and so rewarding.

💪 Every brushstroke and repair is a step closer to the vision. Thanks for following along!

✨ Room 13 — *“The Haunted Room”* — has had a serious glow-up!
What once felt like a tragic tale of peeling paint and spooky vibes is now looking fresh, cozy, and dare I say… inviting? 😄

Still got the toilet room to tackle, but compared to where we started, it’s a total transformation.
From haunted to heavenly — progress feels good!

📸 Stay tuned for the final reveal.

Exciting times and lots of updates to come!

We've made some progress over the winter months and I'm super pleased with the laundry room. Not yet the finished article but so much nicer than before. It's always going to be a dark room with the carport roof shadowing the window but with a bright coat of paint and a mirror to reflect the light, it's made a massive difference.

Well, the rain has certainly put a damper on lawn mowing lately for Grassmaster Services! But that just means Ian has been busy making other things... and a bit of a mess for me to clean up! 😉

He's been hard at work creating an absolute beast of an outdoor table (seriously, it needs a rugby team to move it!) and a truly beautiful memorial seat for my Dad, Cyril. ❤️

When he's not crafting amazing pieces or making our lawns look perfect, you'll often find Ian maintaining the Windsor Hotel building and grounds, keeping everything pristine. What a talented guy!
