A big ngā mihi to Mel Jeavons from our local St John for sharing her knowledge of first aid, oxygen management, and CPR with us at tonight’s training. Practical, hands on sessions like this ensure our brigade stays current with best‑practice techniques and is well prepared to respond effectively in our community.

Matariki Mahuika Ahi is the tradition of lighting bonfires on beaches and waterfronts to bring communities together and celebrate Matariki.

If this is your first time lighting a fire to mark the appearance of Matariki whether at the beach or in your backyard with a brazier, check out these tips:
đŸ”„Go to checkitsalright.nz to see if you are able to light a fire in your area. You may need a permit.
đŸ”„Check the fire danger on the day at checkitsalright.nz
đŸ”„Chose a spot that is 20 metres from buildings, fences and hedges. 500 metres from forest or scrub land and at least 15 metres from other fires.
đŸ”„Use dry, untreated wood and no tyres, plastics or rubbish
đŸ”„If using a brazier make sure it is on stable, level non-flammable surface
đŸ”„The fire should be no taller than 2 metres and no wider than 3 metres
đŸ”„Keep something to help put out the fire close by. Such as a bucket of water, shovel, hose or fire extinguisher
đŸ”„Never leave your fire unattended
đŸ”„Extinguish your fire with lots of water

Kia ora,

Well, we’ve had just about everything thrown at us over the last month – but it’s going to take a lot more than that to stop this event.

Kamo and Ngunguru Fire Brigades welcome you and the whanau to:

Kamo Touch a Truck Northlands Biggest Truck Machinery and Emergency Event is full steam ahead, and Port Nikau is filling up fast with trucks, machinery, and emergency services for a huge Northland family day out.

Event details
What: Kamo Touch a Truck
Where: Port Nikau, 365 Port Road, Whangārei
When: Saturday 2 May, 9.00 am – 2.00 pm

We’re lining the place with big gear, small gear – size doesn’t matter:

Trucks of all shapes and sizes

Crane trucks and Cranes

Diggers, Dozers, Graders, Rollers, Moxys and more.

Hands‑on digger experiences for the kids (and the big kids too!)

The kids won’t just want to see the machines – they’ll want to get up close, sit in cabs, see the controls and meet the people who use this gear every day.

Also joining us again this year will be Mini Mack, offering rides throughout the day. This is always a huge hit with the kids – and, if we’re honest, we’ve seen a few “big kids” enjoying a ride in the back as well.
Chris is passionate about bringing the trucking industry to life for the next generation and helping to plant the seed early, and we really appreciate the way Mini Mack adds to the atmosphere and excitement of the event.

Shine that gear UP

THE CONVOY KICKS OF FROM THE SEMENOFF STADIUM AT 7.30AM AND DO THEIR ROUTE THEN BACK DOWN TO PARK AT PORT NIKAU WATCH THIS SPACE FOR THE ROUTE.

Spaces are filling quickly, and Port Nikau is going to be packed with gear, so get in early and lock in your spot.

If you are wanting to bring in machinery call us and let’s make a plan.

🚁 Big Announcement!!

Popping in to join us on 2nd of May 2026 will be our very own Northland Rescue Helicopter team!

We work closely with these legends, but don’t often get the chance to come together and invite the public to get up close, so this is something pretty special. The team has kindly agreed to be part of the event, giving everyone the chance to meet them and check out the chopper.

They’ll be landing at Port Nikau (time to be confirmed), so make sure you’re there to catch it! đŸšđŸ”„
