Whangarei Quarry Gardens

Whangarei Quarry Gardens Whangārei Quarry Gardens is a sub-tropical oasis created by volunteers in the remnants of a former stone quarry.

The Quarry Gardens are open year-round and feature subtropical gardens, native forest walks, waterfalls, streams, quarry ruins, tunnels, a very special scented Camellia collection, a huge variety of exotic plant species, and so much more. The Gardens are a community project and have been created through the blood, sweat, tears, and laughter of volunteers, supporting companies, and other interest g

roups. New volunteers are always needed and very welcome! We are looking for gardeners, 'meet and greet' volunteers for our visitor center, as well as extra pairs of hands for our regular events. If you'd like to be involved and part of our community please contact us for more info. Our visitor center is home to the fabulous Quail Cafe, open 9 - 3 Wednesday to Sunday, a small but beautifully stocked gift and plant shop. Located just off SH1 and Open 9am - 5pm every day, entry is by donation, cash or EFTPOS.

Many of you may have seen the beautiful sculpture Tiori Toru by local artist Karin de Beer, which was named and blessed by Te Parawhau and added to our outdoor sculpture exhibition.

Unfortunately, early last Monday morning (24 August), Karin’s sculpture was taken from the Town Basin by an individual on a bicycle.

Karin poured so much of her time and artistry into this piece, and we are devastated on her behalf. Our wish is simply to see it returned safely to its place.

If you have any information, saw anything in the area, or know where the sculpture is currently located, please send us a private message, or you can anonymously contact Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111, or contact the police directly. It can also be returned directly to us with absolutely no questions asked.

Please share to help us bring Karin’s artwork home!

This asphalting, alongside the concreting done at our entry point, means much better access for all garden visitors, but particularly those who use strollers, wheelchairs, and walkers. We can't wait for you to check it out!
A big thanks to Geoff and the team from Recycled Asphalt Driveways.

We highly recommend a visit to the Whangarei Orchid Show!
Open tomorrow from 9am until 3pm at Forum North. We really marvelled at the incredible variety of blooms. And there are plenty available for sale too.
Make sure you take some cash to donate on your way in.

We're proud to introduce our fancy new bike and scooter parking!
Not quite finished, but ready to serve its purpose.
In fact, the first person to chain their bike or scooter up to it gets a free ice cream! 🍦
Share this post with your bike and scooter-riding pals.

Thanks to the Bike and Scooter funding grant from Whangarei District Council and the support of Anwen from for helping us make the best-looking bike park in town. It's great to be able to have this available for our community.
