Discover these gorgeous hand-knitted pieces by local Kaipara artist Erika Husselmann, created especially for the Hundertwasser Art Centre MuseumShop.

Inspired by Hundertwasser’s love of individuality and his belief that socks don’t have to match, Erika’s creations are colourful and odd, just the way Hundertwasser would have liked it.

Join us on 19 September for an open, light-hearted discussion about our relationship to, and understanding of, death in our lives and community.

Death Cafés, offered on a not-for-profit basis, have no agenda other than the questions everyone brings and the information we share about something that touches us all.

Many of you may have seen the beautiful sculpture Tiori Toru by local artist Karin de Beer, which was named and blessed by Te Parawhau and added to our outdoor sculpture exhibition.

Unfortunately, early last Monday morning (24 August), Karin’s sculpture was taken from the Town Basin by an individual on a bicycle.

Karin poured so much of her time and artistry into this piece, and we are devastated on her behalf. Our wish is simply to see it returned safely to its place.

If you have any information, saw anything in the area, or know where the sculpture is currently located, please send us a private message, or you can anonymously contact Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111, or contact the police directly. It can also be returned directly to us with absolutely no questions asked.

Have you ever been curious about Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s unique artistic approach?

He believed that art belonged everywhere, painting wherever inspiration struck: at home, in nature, on trains, or while travelling the world. By using handmade paints, natural pigments, and found materials, Hundertwasser constantly experimented with new techniques that were inspired by the natural world.

Hundertwasser believed that architecture shouldn’t be soulless, flat, or easy to analyse. In Loewengasse – The Third Skin, he reflects on the creation of the Hundertwasser House in Vienna while it was still under construction, responding to critics who claimed he only painted façades without considering the structure of buildings.

For Hundertwasser, architecture was our "third skin", following our natural skin and clothing. Just as our skin keeps us safe and healthy, he believed our homes should do the same.
