Kia ora koutou,

A sensory garden is a place purposefully designed to explore the five senses. It can help people regulate, connect to the living world, and (one of my favourite pastimes) relax. We have had a team hard at work developing plans for our own sensory garden and we are looking for some support as we move to the next stage. In particular we are looking for:

· Straight PVC piping to help build an outdoor musical instrument. We are looking for various lengths ranging from 75cm to 2m long.

· A number of volunteers to work alongside our garden team and Kaiako in building these items. Skills in woodwork or landscaping would be very beneficial.

· Keen gardeners to support the planting process.

If you are able to support in any way, please get in touch either by sharing your details at the front office or emailing [email protected].

We are rapidly approaching the middle of 2026 already and there couldn’t be a better time to discuss with your tamariki how their year is going. What are they proud of achieving so far? What do they still want to achieve? What are they looking forward to? What would they like some help with? These are just the kind of questions we have been discussing with your tamariki as part of our preparation for the upcoming whānau hui. I have again attached to this post instructions for booking your whānau hui this term.

With that, have a great weekend, enjoy the company of your whānau, and please take some time to look at the attached menu for next week’s school lunches. Take care.

Kia ora koutou,

These cold mornings and blue-sky afternoons are providing some perfect conditions for learning in Onerahi. On this particular afternoon you should be handed (or find in your child’s bag) a newsletter with details around our whānau hui evenings and initial school reports. These are set for the 15th and 16th of June. I have also attached images of the newsletter to this post should your physical copy become lost in transit. Take care team.

Kia ora koutou,

This week we have been enjoying the rehearsals taking place around the school ahead of Showquest. The look on the faces of our tamariki as they perform is priceless and I want to again acknowledge the huge amount of mahi the organising teachers are putting in. The performing arts are alive and well at your kura.

A timely reminder of some upcoming school closures centred around King’s Birthday weekend. On Friday the 29th of May we have a staff-only day. This was provided by the Ministry of Education for schools to continue unpacking the new curriculum. School will also be closed on Monday the 1st of June for King’s Birthday and Tuesday the 2nd June for our mid-term break.

Next week information will be coming home in a newsletter around Term 2 Whānau Hui. The are scheduled for the 15th and 16th of June. The newsletter will contain information around booking an appointment with your child’s teacher, what the hui will look like, and the new report format that will be shared with you. We look forward to seeing you then.

Lastly, Youth Week is next week and with it the council is promoting free bus rides for people up to 24 years of age. A bus adventure to the pools (or further afield) might be a great activity for your whānau during the week. Take care team and we will see you next week.

Kia ora koutou,

Just a quick post to close the week. Firstly, thank you to everyone who attended and supported the ANZAC Day ceremony on Saturday. Your presence and the respect you showed meant a lot. I would also like to acknowledge Ms Slaney again for organising the school crew and preparing the wreath.

Secondly, a huge thank you to our parent helpers who attended our Senior Camp this week. They were just the kind of people who ensure a camp runs smoothly. It was an absolute blast and Mangawhai put on some beautiful weather for our adventures. Camps are a special time for our tamariki and the growth you see over their time away is exponential. If you have a child heading out on camp in the future I highly encourage you to get involved.

Lastly, have a great weekend everyone. We are two weeks into this term and everything is humming along nicely. Take care.
