This inlet is used by the fire brigade personnel to access water. It is normally dry but is used to pump water by charging using many fire fighting equipment. SFFECO's Breeching Inlets are KITEMARK certified. Breeching Inlets are also commonly known as Fire Department Connection.

Dry Riser Systems are installed in buildings for fire fighting purposes by trained personnel and which are normally dry and are capable of being charged with water by pumping from Fire Service Appliances
Dry Riser Systems are installed complete with an inlet breeching connector at Ground Floor or at Fire Service Access Level and with Landing Valves at specified points on each floor
Dry Riser Systems are installed up to 50m above the Fire Service Access Level
Wet Riser Systems are installed in a buildings for fire fighting purposes by trained personnel and which are permanently charged with water from a pumped source
Wet Riser Systems are installed complete with Landing Valves at specified points on each floor
Wet Riser Systems are installed up to and above 50m subject to the system being designed to provide adequate flow and pressure at the upper floors

Wet risers are used to supply water within buildings for firefighting purposes. The provision of a built-in water distribution system means that firefighters do not need to create their own distribution system in order to fight a fire and avoids the breaching of fire compartments by running hose lines between them.

Wet risers are permanently charged with water. This is as opposed to dry risers which do not contain water when they are not being used, but are charged with water by fire service pumping appliances when necessary.

Wet risers should be within fire-fighting shafts, and where necessary in protected escape stairs. Wet riser outlets, or 'landing valves' may be within in protected lobbies, stairs or enclosures where these are available
