His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik paid a historic visit to France on 28 and 29 June 2026 at the invitation of the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron. His Majesty the Sultan was accompanied by a high-level ministerial and business delegation, that held in-depth meetings with their French counterparts. This visit marks the transformation of the long-standing and trust-based bilateral relationship into a close and strategic partnership across all areas. On June 29, at the Élysée Palace, His Majesty the Sultan and the President of the French Republic exchanged views on a wide range of bilateral, regional and international issues and noted the very close alignment between the Sultanate of Oman and France. These discussions also provided an opportunity to highlight the central role of the Sultanate of Oman as a consistent and effective mediator amongst all parties involved in the current crisis in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. The two heads of state agreed to work with all stakeholders to promote freedom of navigation in the future and to carry out joint mine-clearance operations.
The two Heads of State also reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and multilateralism. They adopted a joint declaration of friendship and partnership reflecting this broad convergence of views.
His Majesty’s visit to France was also marked by the signing of numerous agreements and contracts, worth over 12 billion dollars, across sectors including water and sanitation, urban services and mobility, renewable energy, energy efficiency and storage, logistics and ports, new technologies and artificial intelligence, space, telecommunications and satellites, radar systems, and manufacturing, as well as mutual support for innovation through the ecosystem of start-ups and innovative small and medium-sized enterprises.
France and Oman have also signed a series of cooperation agreements in the fields of education, museum cooperation, specialized training in France for Omani doctors, and archaeological cooperation.
The implementation of all these projects will further shape and strengthen French-Omani relations in the years to come, for the benefit and prosperity of both peoples.
