Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA): CRBA appointments will be available to document U.S. citizenship of a child born abroad to a U.S. citizen parent or parents.

To request a CRBA appointment, follow these steps:

2. Access eCRBA and submit your application online.

3. Submit payment ($100) on Pay.gov. This is the only way to pay for these services. We cannot take cash or credit card payments.

4. Send us an email to [email protected] including the subject “eCRBA Appointment Request CUSCO” and the case number.

Once your e-mail with the eCRBA case number is received, the case will be reviewed and you will be contacted by email to schedule an appointment for an interview with the Consular Officer in Cusco. The presence of the parents and the child/children is required on the day of the appointment.

Alert: U.S. Embassy Lima, Peru – August 20, 2026

Location: Coracora District, in the southern area of the Ayacucho region.

Event: U.S. Geological Survey registered a magnitude 6.7 earthquake in the Ayacucho region of Peru at 13:00 on August 20. Peru’s National Emergency Operations Center (COEN) reports no fatalities so far, but at least 6,000 users losing power. Local media is showing images of some damage to houses and other buildings, and reporting that regional schools will be closed on August 21 to assess structural damage.

Actions to Take:

Monitor local media and government agencies, including Peru’s COEN, Tourist Information and Assistance service (iPeru), the Commission to Promote Peru for Exports and Tourism (PROMPERU), and Peru’s National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (SENAMHI) for updates.

Weather Alert - U. S. Embassy (Lima, Peru) (August 19, 2026)

Location: Arequipa Region (Caravelí Province/Atico District); Cusco

Event: Road Closures and Airport Disruption due to Inclement Weather in Peru

The U.S. Embassy has been informed of ongoing disruptions due to heavy rains:
• Pan-American Highway South (Arequipa/Caravelí/Atico): The highway remains blocked between kilometers 723 and 733 due to weather-related damage. Cleanup efforts are underway, with approximately 6 kilometers still to be cleared before the roadway reopens to vehicle traffic. Travelers should expect significant delays and plan alternate routes where possible.
• Airports: The airports in Arequipa and Cusco have experienced service disruptions due to weather conditions. Travelers with flights in the region should check with their airline for updated flight status.
• Trails: The Government of Peru announced that the Inca Trail will be closed from August 19 to August 22, 2026.

• Monitor local media and check with local authorities for the latest updates on road and airport conditions before traveling.
• Avoid the affected section of the Pan-American Highway South until officials confirm it has reopened.

Message for U.S. Citizens: National Multi-Hazard Drill 2026 - U.S. Embassy Lima, Peru

Location: Peru (All Regions)

Event: The National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI) has announced that the annual National Multi-Hazard Drill 2026 will take place on Friday, August 14, at 3:00 p.m. in all regions of Peru. This nationwide exercise, part of the “Choose to be Prepared” campaign, is designed to strengthen government and citizen response and prevention capabilities for natural and man-made disasters.

During the drill, Peru (government and residents) will drill emergency plans, practice evacuation routes, and activate response protocols. Please expect/anticipate the following:

Peruvian emergency response teams will be active, including using sirens, alarms, and personnel throughout the country.
Residents throughout the country will be expected to participate in exercises while outside their domicile.
Please follow local guidance and anticipate participating in any exercise you may find yourself in. For example, emergency response teams may ask residents to move to certain areas or evacuate a building.

Disaster Alert: U.S. Embassy Lima, Peru (August 5, 2026)

Location: Ollantaytambo, Aguas Calientes, Machu Picchu, Perú

Event: Wildfire Danger in Peru



The U.S. Embassy in Lima has been informed of an ongoing wildfire in the Cusco area near Machu Picchu, which could impact travel.



U.S. citizens should exercise caution in the affected areas. Railroad services between Ollantaytambo and Aguas Calientes are currently running but may be delayed or suspended in the future depending on the wildfire conditions.



U.S. citizens living in or traveling near any of the affected areas should follow instructions from local authorities and closely monitor local media and emergency alerts. Avoid any actions that may cause a fire. Expect smoke from wildfires to cause poor air quality in impacted areas, which may affect breathing and visibility. Make contingency plans, as travel to some areas may be disrupted due to routes closed for evacuation.

Be an Active Voter by taking the necessary steps to vote in the 2026 U.S. elections. Voter registration deadlines vary by state. Some states require voters to be registered 30 days before an election. Check the Federal Voting Assistance Program website (www.FVAP.gov) to find more information on the deadline in your state. Whether you are a first-time voter or have voted absentee in previous elections, you should complete a Voter Registration and Absentee Ballot Request – also known as the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA) – each year to ensure you are able to participate in elections as an overseas absentee voter.

Security Alert: Reports of Planned Demonstrations in Peru – June 19



Event:​ Protests are expected in Lima, particularly near the National Jury of Elections (JNE) headquarters at Jr. Nazca 598, Jesús María, beginning June 19. These events can sometimes come with temporary disruptions such as increased police presence, traffic congestion, and/or transportation delays. For this reason, it is important to remain aware of your surroundings and take simple steps to reduce risk during this period.

Additional peaceful demonstrations may occur as the electoral process continues, culminating with the presidential inauguration on July 28.

We encourage U.S. citizens living in Peru to take a few basic preparedness steps at home. Ensure you have essential household supplies such as food, water, and any necessary medications for several days, and keep mobile devices charged in case communication updates are issued.

Avoid large crowds, political rallies, and demonstrations. If you are near a demonstration or encounter civil unrest, prioritize your personal safety by moving away from the area and seeking a secure location such as a nearby business or your residence. Avoid confrontations, remain calm, and depart the area when you feel it is safe to do so.

Avoid demonstration areas, large crowds, and roadblocks.
Follow instructions from the Peruvian National Police, Armed Forces, and other local authorities
