Established in the early 1960s the Highlands Aquaculture Development Center (HAQDEC) is a freshwater aquaculture research and development Center located in the Aiyura Valle, Kainantu, Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea. HAQDEC's main function is aquaculture research in farming systems which includes, feeding, broodstock management and maintaining quality gene pool and other related res

earch. It also conducts aquaculture extension and trainings. We also maintain a tilapia and carp hatchery that produces fingerlings for farmers.
