Some idea of the fire calls this year. Jan 3, Feb 1, March 0, April 1, May 0, June 1, July 3 and Aug 10. Can easily see the increase with the start of the drought. Glad we got the truck when we did, as the old one would have really struggled.

And the work on the new Fire Station continues. Roof line is being extended to help stop rain getting through the top of the new sliding door. Hopefully the gutters are next. Then we still have to work on the inside so things can be stored in an orderly fashion.

Our number of followers has grown to over 190. It is great to people taking an interest in our remote Eastern Highlands Province Volunteer Fire Department. Please mention us to your friends.

Fire number 19 for this year. A bit larger than most, and took longer to extinguish due to the terrain and limited access (on the other side of the security fence). Certainly provided some excitement/entertainment for those living nearby, and lots of smoke for everyone else.

3 fires already this month, and it is just the start of the drought.

Here is the 'new' fire station. Part of the wall was removed and a sliding door installed. Workers are busy removing damaged concrete and installing reo bar in preparation for the boxing and pouring of concrete. Testing was done earlier to make sure the truck fits, and it does! Still lots to do before we can move in though.

Hope to post some photos soon of the work that has started on our 'new' fire station. Just been busy trying to get hose trays made and wiring sorted on the truck, in between fire calls. The drought looks like it will make us a bit busier.

Our new truck had its first real test today. Being able to climb the hill carrying twice as much water was very pleasing, as was having an easier to use pump. Likely to get more boundary fires if the drought continues. Thanks to the team members who were able to respond, and stay for the nearly 3 hours.

Recent visit to Waigani Fire Station. A great experience to meet the guys from the PNG Fire and Rescue Service. Thanks to all of you. By next visit you will be in your new administration building.
