*FDDA PARTNERS WITH SMEC TO DELIVER GREEN ENERGY & INDUSTRIAL PARK VISION*
The Finschhafen District Development Authority (FDDA) is pleased to announce that SMEC International, in collaboration with Surbana Jurong, has formally submitted its proposal to undertake a High-Level Technical Assessment for the establishment of the Finschhafen Green Energy & Industrial Park within the Finschhafen Integrated Special Economic Zone (FISEZ).
This transformative initiative represents a milestone for Finschhafen, Morobe Province, and Papua New Guinea. The project will create a *1,000-hectare world-class industrial park* powered entirely by renewable energy sources including hydropower, wind, solar, and wave energy. It will feature green hydrogen production, LNG and hydrogen export terminals, and a low-carbon industrial park, while also incorporating climate-resilient infrastructure and eco-tourism opportunities.
The project is divided into five core assessment components:
1. Renewable Energy Resource Assessment
2. Green Hydrogen and Derivatives Development
3. Hydrogen Export Terminal Planning
4. LNG Export Terminal Planning
5. Low-Carbon Industrial Park Development
SMEC’s technical expertise, coupled with FDDA’s vision, will ensure that this project not only positions Finschhafen as the national hub for renewable-powered industrialization, but also places Papua New Guinea at the forefront of the global clean energy transition.
Speaking on behalf of the FDDA, Chairman *Hon. Rainbo Paita* said:
_“This is a historic step for Finschhafen and Papua New Guinea. Our Green Energy & Industrial Park will anchor the FISEZ as a net-zero carbon economic zone, attracting global investors, creating thousands of jobs, and ensuring sustainable economic growth for our people. This is our contribution to the global fight against climate change, and our commitment to building an industrial future based on clean, renewable energy."_
_"More importantly, this ambitious dream is our way of realizing the ‘Take Back PNG’ and ‘Take Back Our Resources’ policy agenda announced by the Pangu-led Government. Prime Minister Hon. James Marape has set the national direction, and FDDA is committed to turning this vision into reality through green energy development and downstream processing."_
_"As PNG marches forward into the next 50 years, we want to proudly position ourselves as the Green Industrial Hub of Papua New Guinea, driving inclusive growth, energy independence, and industrial transformation for future generations.”_
FDDA will work closely with SMEC, government agencies, international partners, and local communities to ensure inclusive participation and benefits for landowners and the people of Finschhafen.
The High-Level Technical Assessment marks the beginning of detailed planning, feasibility, and financing stages that will set the foundation for construction and operations in the years ahead.
