On 27 May, British High Commissioner H.E. Paul Eastwood and HMS Tamar’s Commanding Officer, Commander Tom Lindsey, were honoured to host Governor-General H.E. Sir Bob Dadae for an evening reception on board HMS Tamar as our Guest of Honour.
The reception brought together leaders and representatives of the PNG Defence Force and PNG Government, Heads of Mission, representatives from international organisations, and business leaders.
In his remarks, the Governor-General warmly welcomed HMS Tamar back to Papua New Guinea on her second official visit, highlighting the strong and enduring ties between the UK and PNG and reaffirming the value of continued cooperation in defence and other shared priorities.
British High Commissioner Paul Eastwood said:
"The visit by HMS Tamar is a sign of our enduring commitment to PNG and our wider commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific. While we may be geographically distant, the UK and PNG are closely connected through our shared history, our institutions, our membership of the Commonwealth and status as Realm nations, and crucially through our shared values."
Commander Lindsey outlined the ship’s capabilities, mission, and regional experience, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to working with partners across the Indo-Pacific to support maritime security, humanitarian assistance, disaster relief, and defence engagement.
HMS Tamar is one of two UK Offshore Patrol Vessels deployed in the Indo-Pacific as part of the Royal Navy’s persistent presence in the region.
