World AIDS Day is observed annually on December 1st with the purpose of raising awareness about HIV/AIDS, remembering those who have died from AIDS-related illnesses, and to show solidarity with people living with HIV.

OUT of the estimated 120,000 reported cases of people living with HIV/AIDS in the country, the majority (60 per cent) are women, says UNAIDS country office adviser, Mosende Zimmbodilion.

Speaking at the PNG Christian Leaders Media conference in Port Moresby yesterday, Zimmbodilion said nearly half of these women and girls were exchanging s*x for money, transport, goods or just to be able to continue their studies.
