πŸš‘πŸ’š Meet Our Ambulance Team: Our Medical Doctors

As we conclude our Meet Our Ambulance Team series, where we've introduced you to the dedicated professionals behind the uniform, we're proud to shine a spotlight on the exceptional medical doctors who help lead emergency pre-hospital care across Papua New Guinea.

Our Green Angels doctors play a critical role in delivering advanced emergency care. They provide clinical leadership across ambulance operations, medical evacuations (medivac) and training ensuring our patients receive the highest standard of care when it matters most.

National St John Ambulance is proud to have three full-time medical doctors, supported by a dedicated network of reservist ambulance doctors from major hospitals and Provincial Health Authorities across the country.

You can identify our doctors by the "Doctor" insignia displayed on their epaulettes.

The next time you meet one of our doctors, be sure to say hello and thank them for their commitment, professionalism, and the incredible work they do to keep our communities safe every day.

πŸš‘πŸ’š Meet Our Ambulance Team

We’ve been introducing you to the dedicated professionals behind the uniform. Today, we’re shining the spotlight on our Paramedics.

Our Green Angels Paramedics are highly trained healthcare professionals who provide advanced pre-hospital care. They assess, treat, and stabilise patients during medical emergencies, often making life-saving decisions before a patient reaches hospital.

A paramedic is stationed at each of our ambulance stations, providing expert clinical support to our ambulance crews and the communities they serve.
Currently, higher learning institutions in Papua New Guinea do not offer a Paramedicine program. As a result, the paramedics working with our service have completed their Bachelor's or Master's Degrees in Australia/New Zealand.

When joining our team, the paramedics complete an intensive five-week induction program tailored to the unique challenges of working in Papua New Guinea. This comprehensive program goes far beyond clinical training and includes: advanced clinical credentialing, cultural competency training, a four-day 4-wheel drive course, security and safety training, practical workshops in obstetrics, mass casualty incidents, and snakebite management.

This prepares our paramedics not only with the clinical and operational skills required for the job, but also with the resilience, adaptability, and cultural understanding needed to live and work effectively within Papua New Guinea.

Beyond responding to emergencies, our paramedics play a vital role in mentoring staff, supporting professional development, and strengthening the capabilities of our ambulance service through ongoing capacity building.

You can identify our paramedics by the words β€˜ADVANCED PARAMEDIC’, 'INTENSIVE CARE PARAMEDIC’ OR 'CRITICAL CARE PARAMEDIC' displayed on their epaulettes.πŸ’š

Be sure to say hello when you meet them and thank them for the incredible work they do to keep our communities safe.

🚨 PUBLIC NOTICE 🚨

πŸ“ž Degraded and Distorted 111 Emergency Phone Services

πŸ“… Monday, 08 June 2026

The National St John Ambulance Service (NStJA) advises the public that we are currently experiencing degraded and distorted voice quality on our 111 toll-free emergency phone lines.

This issue is affecting both incoming and outgoing calls, resulting in poor audio transmission and making communication between callers and personnel at the National Ambulance Operations Centre (NAOC) challenging.

Our team has completed routine operational checks and continues to closely monitor the situation. The issue has been escalated for urgent technical investigation and resolution.
Despite these challenges, the NAOC remains fully operational, and our personnel are committed to responding to all emergency calls and requests for assistance.

🌟 International Volunteers Week 2026 🌟

As we celebrate International Volunteers Week 2026, we would like to recognise and thank our incredible volunteers for their dedication and service. 🀝

Volunteers are an essential part of our organisation. We currently have a pool of around 100 volunteers, with approximately 50 actively serving across our operations and community activities. Their contributions strengthen our organisation and extend our reach into the communities we serve. 🌍🏘

By generously giving their time, skills, and compassion, our volunteers embody the true spirit of service. They are also the backbone of our Event Health Services, providing first aid, health support, and reassurance to the public during community events and gatherings. β›‘πŸš‘πŸ’™

Today, we celebrate the invaluable role our volunteers play in helping us make a meaningful difference. 🌟

Thank you to all our volunteers in Papua New Guinea and around the world. Your service truly makes a difference. πŸ‡΅πŸ‡¬πŸŒ

πŸ–Œ Working Bee at Port Moresby Ambulance Station πŸš‘

Yesterday, our team rolled up their sleeves for a Working Bee at the Port Moresby Ambulance Station, giving the bunk room and crew facilities a fresh coat of paint and a well-deserved refresh.

It was a great team effort that helped give the station a brighter look for our crews.

A big thank you to everyone who gave up part of their Sunday to lend a hand. Your willingness to contribute and take pride in our workplace is greatly appreciated. πŸ‘

πŸš‘πŸ’š Meet Our Ambulance Team

As part of introducing you to the faces behind the uniform, today we’re shining a light on our amazing Health Extension Officers (HEOs).

Our Green Angels HEOs are an important part of the clinical ambulance team. They support community health, provide basic treatment and health education, and help strengthen the connection between communities and emergency services.

Before joining ambulance operations, every HEO completes specialist Ambulance Responder training at the National Ambulance Education College (NAEC), where they receive advanced training in life support, critical care, and aeromedical retrieval.

You’ll recognise them by the initials β€œHEO” displayed on their epaulets πŸ’š

So next time you meet one of our dedicated HEOs and team, say hello and thank them for the incredible work they do every day to care for our communities when help is needed most.
