The ABG passed a budget of more than K500 million for 2022. President Toroama says that this budget will focus on creating economic growth and promoting investment opportunities on . Stories from The National (16 Dec 2021).

In 2020, raised K500,000 in Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue. As the graph below shows, this accounted for 2% of internal revenues for the ABG. However Bougainville has the potential to raise around K100 million in VAT revenues. Download the attached commentary to read how this can be achieved in the short term.

However there is much potential to increase its own internal revenues. In the short term, Bougainville can look at increasing its VAT collections. This article explores that option.

In 2014, the industry in brought in an estimated K68 million in revenue. This brief paper (link below) offers some ideas on how a portion of revenues such as this can be captured to help Bougainville achieve its goal of economic independence.
