TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan โ More than 2,500 job opportunities will be available to jobseekers in Region 2 through a series of job fairs lined up for the 124th celebration of Philippine Labor Day.
The Labor Day Job Fair will be held on May 1 at SM City Tuguegarao in Cagayan and Robinsons Place Santiago in Isabela, while a post-Labor Day Job Fair will also take place on May 6 to 7 in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya.
A total of 65 employers are set to participate, offering 2,564 local vacancies.
Speaking during a press conference at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region 2, Assistant Regional Director Atty. Remedios T. Vegim-Teves, representing Regional Director Jesus Elpidio B. Atal Jr., emphasized that the Labor Day celebration goes beyond employment facilitation.
โTitipunin natin ang lahat ng employer upang bigyan ng mas maraming oportunidad ang ating mga kababayan,โ Vegim-Teves said.
In addition to the job fairs, a Government Internship Program (GIP) Fair will offer 100 internship slots through 16 partner agencies, including the Civil Service Commission, Department of Trade and Industry, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Education, and various local government units.
Jobseekers can also take part in TESDA-led skills demonstrations featuring practical training in massage therapy and bartending.
A one-stop shop of services from various government agencies will be made available through a Government Service Caravan, featuring SSS, PhilHealth, PAG-IBIG, NBI, PSA, BIR, and TESDA, while Labor Education Sessions will cover workersโ rights, occupational safety and health, and labor laws.
Meanwhile, over 4,500 disadvantaged workers will receive emergency employment assistance under the TUPAD program, amounting to more than โฑ38.6 million in wages.
A total of 56 local farmers and producers will showcase their products through the Kadiwa ng Pangulo initiative, offering affordable agricultural goods, food items, and handicrafts.
Around 846 beneficiaries across the region will receive livelihood starter kits worth over โฑ13.8 million.
Workers in the informal sector, particularly those affected by the ongoing oil and energy crisis, may also avail themselves of services such as medical missions and YAKAP registration.
This yearโs Labor Day celebration carries the theme: โDisenteng Trabaho Para sa Lahat: Iisang Hangarin, Bagong Pilipinas Sama-samang Mararating,โ highlighting the shared goal of inclusive growth and decent work for all.
Ahead of the Labor Day activities, DOLE Region 2 will also mark the World Day for Safety and Health at Work on April 28 through a series of initiatives promoting workplace safety and workersโ well-being.
These include a panel discussion on psychosocial risks across industries, a TikTok dance challenge and vlog contest highlighting safety practices with cash prizes, a medical mission for workers, the โIsang Oras Para sa Trabahong Ligtasโ initiative encouraging establishments to dedicate time for workplace wellness and safety check.
On April 21โ23, a Work Environment Measurement (WEM) Training-Workshop was held at Hotel Sofia in Cauayan City, Isabela, where safety and occupational health professionals, as well as industrial hygienists, participated. The activity focused on measuring workplace hazards, enabling participants to gain a clearer understanding of the risks present in their respective workplaces. Through this, they are better equipped to take appropriate actions to control or eliminate these hazards as part of the celebration of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work. #
