PNP HITS DRUG SUPPLY NATIONWIDE: 2 ARRESTED, ₱49.7M RECOVERED

The Philippine National Police (PNP) seized more than ₱49.7 million worth of suspected illegal drugs and ma*****na in separate operations in Lanao del Sur, Kalinga, and Iloilo on August 19 and 20, further disrupting the movement and cultivation of prohibited substances in different parts of the country.

In Iloilo City, police arrested two individuals identified by their aliases as “Kalbo” and “Pongkoy” during an operation early Thursday, August 20. Authorities recovered approximately 160 grams of suspected shabu, with an estimated standard drug price of ₱1.088 million. The two suspects will undergo standard booking and medical procedures, while appropriate charges are being prepared.

In Lanao del Sur, an anti-drug operation in Barangay Bato-Bato, Maguing, on August 19 resulted in the recovery of approximately 300 grams of suspected shabu valued at ₱2.04 million, along with a firearm and other evidence. An armed confrontation was reported during the operation, after which one of the individuals involved sustained gunshot wounds and was declared dead upon arrival at a hospital. Another individual reportedly escaped. The incident remains under investigation.

Meanwhile, police operations in Tinglayan, Kalinga resulted in the destruction of approximately 156,000 fully grown ma*****na plants and 100,000 grams of dried ma*****na leaves, with an estimated value of ₱43.2 million. A separate eradication operation in the same municipality also led to the uprooting and destruction of about 17,000 ma*****na plants valued at ₱3.4 million.

Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., Chief of the PNP, commended the operating units for sustaining pressure against both the distribution and cultivation of illegal drugs, while emphasizing that police action must remain anchored on lawful procedures.

“We have to keep doing the work where it matters—stopping illegal drugs from reaching our communities and going after their sources. Pero kasabay ng pagiging matatag sa operasyon, dapat malinaw din na sumusunod tayo sa batas at tamang proseso. The public expects both, and we have to deliver both,” PGen Nartatez said.

₱3.33-M SUSPECTED ILLICIT CI******ES SEIZED; FISHERMAN HELD IN NEGROS OCCIDENTAL

The Philippine National Police (PNP) seized 3,700 reams of suspected illicit ci******es worth approximately P3.33 million during an early-morning operation in Cauayan, Negros Occidental on August 19, 2026.

Personnel of the 4th Special Operations Unit (4th SOU), with support from the Negros Occidental Maritime Police Station and Cauayan Municipal Police Station, acted on information regarding the reported loading of suspected smuggled ci******es in Barangay Linaon.

Upon arrival, police personnel found a 39-year-old Filipino male, a fisherman and tricycle driver, in possession of the cigarette products while waiting for another vehicle to pick them up. The reported closed van had already left the area.

The seized items were inventoried in the presence of barangay officials and brought to the 4th SOU Headquarters for proper documentation. The National To***co Administration (NTA) will evaluate the products to determine whether they are illicit, with appropriate proceedings to follow.
The operation forms part of the PNP's continuing efforts to address illicit trade and protect legitimate commerce, consistent with its Focused Agenda, particularly Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO).

PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the operating personnel for their prompt response and proper handling of the seized items.

“I commend our personnel on the ground for acting promptly on the information and ensuring that the seized items were properly documented and turned over for evaluation. Their alertness and teamwork helped prevent these products from reaching the market,” PGen Nartatez said.

He also reminded the public to remain vigilant against illicit trade and to help authorities address suspicious activities.

“At the same time, we remind the public that illicit trade affects legitimate businesses and government revenues. Maging mapanuri tayo sa mga produktong binibili at ibinibenta natin. ALLEGED “PAIHI” OPERATION HALTED IN ISABELA; 2 ARRESTED

The Philippine National Police (PNP) through the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) arrested two individuals during an operation against an alleged unauthorized transfer of petroleum products in Brgy. Cabaruan, Cauayan City, Isabela on August 17, 2026.

The operation led to the apprehension of a male and a female, both of legal age, who were reportedly engaged in the transfer of diesel fuel from an improvised tanker truck to a van. Authorities also secured the vehicles and petroleum products involved, with a combined estimated value of ₱1,518,800.00.

The operation highlights the PNP’s continuing efforts to address activities that may compromise the safe and lawful distribution of petroleum products. Unauthorized handling and transfer of fuel can create risks not only to consumers and nearby communities but also to legitimate businesses operating within the bounds of existing regulations.

TWO FOREIGNERS ARRESTED AFTER 15-DAY RECEIPT RUSE AT PASIG HOTEL

The Philippine National Police, under the leadership of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., has arrested two foreign nationals accused of defrauding a hotel owner in Pasig City through a 15-day scheme involving falsified payment receipts.

The suspects, a 21-year-old male freelancer from Rwanda and a 27-year-old male student from Bolivia, were arrested on August 18, 2026, following a complaint filed by the hotel owner.

Police investigation showed that the two checked into a hotel in Barangay Kapitolyo on August 3, 2026, and allegedly sent the owner daily receipts as supposed proof of payment. However, verification showed that none of the transactions appeared in the hotel’s bank account.

The scheme unraveled when the suspects submitted another payment receipt on August 18 containing discrepancies that raised the hotel staff’s suspicion. When confronted, the two allegedly gave conflicting explanations before admitting that the receipt had been fabricated. The hotel owner said the total amount involved in the alleged fraud reached ₱45,000.00.

The owner immediately sought assistance from the Barangay Security Force of Kapitolyo and Ortigas Police Sub-Station 1, resulting in the arrest of the suspects. They were brought to the police station for documentation and subsequently endorsed to the Station Investigation and Detective Management Section (SIDMS) for the filing of Estafa charges before the Pasig City Prosecutor’s Office through inquest proceedings.

“This case shows that deception will not succeed when transactions are properly verified and suspicious acts are immediately reported to authorities,” said PGEN Nartatez.

“Ang paggamit ng pekeng dokumento upang manloko ay isang seryosong paglabag. Hindi palalampasin ng PNP ang sinumang gagamit ng ganitong paraan upang mandaya,” he added.

WANTED PASSENGER ARRESTED AT NAIA OVER TWO OUTSTANDING WARRANTS

A joint police and airport security operation resulted in the arrest of a woman with two outstanding warrants at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 1 on August 15, 2026.

The 48-year-old Filipino passenger had arrived from Los Angeles, USA, when authorities confirmed that she was the subject of warrants issued by courts in Cebu City for Kidnapping and Serious Illegal Detention and Estafa. Both warrants carried no recommended bail.

Personnel of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group–Regional Field Unit 7 (CIDG-RFU7) and NAIA Police Station 1, with support from the Bureau of Immigration and airline security, facilitated the implementation of the warrants and took the woman into custody.

She was informed of the grounds for her arrest and apprised of her constitutional rights before being turned over to CIDG-RFU7 for documentation and appropriate legal proceedings.

PNP Chief, Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., said the operation reflects the value of timely information-sharing and coordinated action in carrying out court-issued processes.

“Kapag may valid court order, we have a responsibility to act on it. At the same time, we have to make sure that the process is proper, lawful, and respectful of everyone’s rights,” PGen Nartatez said.

PNP BACKS STRONGER GUN ACCOUNTABILITY, SAFER SCHOOL MEASURES

The Philippine National Police (PNP) fully supports stronger accountability among firearm owners and enhanced school safety measures following the August 18, 2026 incident inside a private school in Zamboanga City, as authorities continue to establish the facts surrounding the case.

The incident was discussed during the August 19, 2026 press briefing led by Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Juanito Victor “Jonvic” C. Remulla, where the PNP provided updates on the investigation and its coordination with the Department of Education (DepEd), local governments, and school authorities.

Two students died in the incident, including the CICL who was identified as the person who fired the shots. Another person was injured. The CICL’s death was due to a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The motive remains under investigation.

Chief, PNP Police General Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. said investigators are examining the recovered firearm, ammunition, cellphone, and other evidence, with at least seven fired bullets accounted for.

Authorities are also looking into the two fi****ms reportedly owned by the CICL’s father, a Bureau of Customs (BOC) personnel—one BOC-issued and the other privately owned—to determine how they were secured and accessed and whether safekeeping rules were breached.

“Ang baril, may kaakibat na responsibilidad. Whoever owns or is entrusted with a firearm must make sure it is properly secured and cannot be accessed by someone else. Kung may paglabag sa safekeeping, we will establish it through the investigation and apply the law accordingly,” PGen Nartatez said.

The PNP is conducting a forensic examination of the recovered cellphone, including the CICL’s online activities and possible exposure to online games and violent content. These are among the angles being examined, with no direct link to the incident established so far.

PGen Nartatez said investigators are also examining the CICL’s academic environment, possible experiences, and other circumstances. He was reportedly a top student, while no confirmed bullying incident involving him has been established.

On school safety, the PNP is coordinating with DepEd, local governments, barangays, and school authorities on additional measures, including the possible participation of barangay tanods inside school premises while police personnel maintain security outside. Existing safety and entry protocols are also being reviewed.

“We cannot leave school safety to one agency alone. Police, schools, barangays, families, and other government agencies have to work together. We need to identify the gaps and act on them,” PGen Nartatez said.

The Chief PNP assured the public that the PNP remains focused on establishing the facts, acting within the law, and strengthening measures to protect students and communities.

“The PNP is here, we are working, and we are coordinating with our partners. We will follow the evidence and do everything within our mandate to keep our communities and our children safe,” he said.

₱1.35-M MINERAL ORE SHIPMENT HALTED; 3 COLLARED AT CHECKPOINT

The Philippine National Police, under the command of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., intercepted a shipment of suspected mineral ores and took three individuals into custody during a checkpoint operation in Misamis Oriental on August 17, 2026.

Personnel of the 1st Platoon, Amoros Boundary Control Point, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company, Misamis Oriental Police Provincial Office, in coordination with the El Salvador City Police Station, stopped a white passenger van at Barangay Amoros, El Salvador City after it was flagged for a seatbelt violation.

Upon inspection, personnel found several sacks containing suspected mineral ores in plain view inside the vehicle, with additional sacks discovered at the rear. The occupants failed to present valid documents authorizing the transport of the suspected mineral ores, prompting their custody and the seizure of the shipment.

The three individuals, identified only by their aliases “Roni,” 36, “Rey,” 31, and “Jay,” 39, are Filipino males and residents of Davao de Oro. “Roni” was identified as the driver, while “Rey” and “Jay” were passengers.

Seized during the operation were 27 sacks of suspected mineral ores valued at ₱135,000.00 and a white passenger van valued at ₱1,219,000.00, for a total estimated value of ₱1,354,000.00.

The three are under the custody of the El Salvador City Police Station and may face charges for violation of Republic Act No. 7942, or the Philippine Mining Act of 1995. The confiscated items were secured pending turnover to the Mines and Geosciences Bureau Regional Office 10 for proper examination and verification.

The operation supports the PNP Focused Agenda, a framework for organizational transformation aimed at strengthening police performance and responsiveness. It advances Enhanced Managing Police Operations through focused enforcement against unlawful mining activities.

“We will remain firm in enforcing the law against illegal mining activities. Our personnel will act on violations and ensure that those responsible are held accountable,” PGEN Nartatez said.

“Hindi puwedeng balewalain ang mga patakarang nagpoprotekta sa ating likas na yaman. Kailangan nating maging mahigpit sa pagpapatupad ng batas upang mapigilan ang mga gawaing nakapipinsala sa ating kapaligiran,” he added.

NOTORIOUS MASARONAY LEADER FALLS; LINKED TO DRUG TRAFFICKING AND GUN-FOR-HIRE

The Philippine National Police, under the leadership of PNP Chief PGEN Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr., neutralized a No. 7 Most Wanted Person and alleged leader of the Masaronay Group during the service of warrants of arrest in Salvador, Lanao del Norte, on August 17, 2026.

The operation was conducted by personnel from the Regional Police Drug Enforcement Unit 10, Rapid Deployment Battalion of the PNP Special Action Force, 1005th Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 10, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company of Lanao del Norte, Regional Intelligence Division 10, Regional Intelligence Unit 10, Salvador Municipal Police Station, and Sapad Municipal Police Station.

The wanted individual was the subject of standing warrants covering nine serious criminal cases, including seven counts of murder, one count of frustrated murder, and another murder case. Police intelligence also allegedly linked him to illegal drug trafficking used to generate financial support for DI-Maute-linked personalities, gun-for-hire activities, and providing financial support and shelter to DI-Maute-linked personalities allegedly in exchange for protection, as well as several shooting and other serious criminal incidents.

During the service of the warrants, the suspect allegedly opened fire at the arresting officers, prompting them to return fire in defense of themselves, resulting in his death during the ensuing armed confrontation.

Recovered from the scene were a C**t M16 5.56mm rifle with one magazine containing 22 rounds, a G***k Gen 4 caliber .45 pistol with one magazine containing 12 rounds, additional ammunition and magazines, a black low-carry holster, a black belt bag containing a broken tooter, fired cartridge cases, and eight heat-sealed transparent sachets containing a white crystalline substance believed to be shabu. The suspected shabu weighed approximately 150 grams and had an estimated Standard Drug Price of ₱1,020,000.00.

“This operation demonstrates the PNP’s resolve to pursue individuals who use violence and criminal activities to threaten public safety. Our police officers will uphold the law and take necessary action when confronted with armed aggression,” PGEN Nartatez said.

“Hindi dapat maging kanlungan ng mga armadong kriminal ang ating mga komunidad. Mananatili tayong matatag sa pagpapatupad ng batas at hindi natin hahayaang gamitin ang karahasan upang takutin o ilagay sa panganib ang ating mga mamamayan,” he added.

The operation supports the PNP Focused Agenda, which strengthens police performance in addressing public safety threats, particularly through Enhanced Managing Police Operations against wanted persons and armed criminal activities.
