Today is the International Day of Forests.

Investing in forest conservation, restoration and sustainable use pays off. Forest loss is expensive triggering soil erosion, flooding, climate impacts and productivity declines that far outweigh any short‑term gains and the damage doesn’t stop at the treeline.

Healthy forests protect the wetlands downstream that store carbon, buffer floods, filter water and sustain biodiversity. When we safeguard forests, we safeguard wetlands and together they form one of the planet’s most powerful natural defences.
