PUBLIC ADVISORY: Class Suspension (October 14โ17, 2025) and
Resumption of Face-to-Face Classes on October 20, 2025 (Monday)
Following the recent earthquake incidents affecting the Province of Cebu and neighboring areas, the Municipal Engineering Team and the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) Alegria conducted comprehensive inspections of all public and private schools within the Municipality of Alegria.
Inspection results revealed no major structural damages; however, several school facilities were recommended for temporary vacating pending further evaluation by higher-level structural assessment teams. This precaution ensures the continued safety of learners, teachers, and school personnel.
In view of this, and prioritizing the welfare of all learners and education stakeholders, Mayor Gilberto F. Magallon, M.D. issued Executive Order No. 52, Series of 2025, prescribing the following directives:
1. Implementation of Alternative Learning Modalities (ALMs)
All public and private schools in the Municipality of Alegria shall adopt Alternative Learning Modalities (ALMs)โsuch as modular, online, or other flexible learning setupsโfrom October 14 to 17, 2025, to allow the conduct of further structural assessments and preparedness activities.
2. Resumption of Face-to-Face Classes
Face-to-face classes for all levels shall resume on October 20, 2025 (Monday), provided that:
- No new significant earthquake incidents occur; and
- No adverse advisories are issued by PHIVOLCS or the MDRRMO Alegria prior to said date.
3. Automatic Class Suspension and Early Dismissal Guidelines
๐ฉ Intensity III and below: Classes shall continue as normal.
๐ง Intensity IV and above: Automatic class suspension or early dismissal shall be implemented, depending on the time of occurrence.
4. Earthquake Occurring Before the Start of Classes
If an earthquake occurs hours before the start of classes, the following protocols shall apply:
๐ฉ Intensity IโIII: Classes shall proceed as normal.
๐ง Intensity IVโV: Half-day classes shall be observed; the morning period shall be used for safety inspection and assessment by School Heads and School DRRM Coordinators.
๐ฅ Intensity VI and above: Automatic class suspension for the entire day.
These directives are issued in accordance with DepEd Memorandum No. 22, s. 2024, which authorizes Local Chief Executives to suspend classes, in coordination with school authorities, when the safety of learners and personnel is at risk.
All School Heads are instructed to coordinate closely with the MDRRMO Alegria and the Municipal Engineering Office for continuous safety monitoring and compliance with this directive. The Municipal Information Office, in coordination with the DepEd Alegria District, shall ensure the timely and accurate dissemination of information to the public.
The Local Government of Alegria remains steadfast in prioritizing the safety, welfare, and educational continuity of every learner and school personnel amidst natural hazards.
