The DOST Caraga Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory will temporarily suspend walk-in transactions on August 27, 2026. Personnel will not be available during this time as they will be engaged in Caraga Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Week (RSTW) activities.

During this period, the following services will be unavailable:

-Sample pick-up

𝐁𝐮𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐬, 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐬: 𝐃𝐎𝐒𝐓-𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐚 𝐑𝐒𝐓𝐋 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐬 𝐎𝐉𝐓 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦

Department of Science and Technology Caraga continues to invest in developing future science, technology, and innovation professionals by providing learning opportunities that enable students to apply their classroom knowledge in real-world settings.

Fourteen On-the-Job Trainees (OJTs) from Caraga State University (CSU) completed their internship at the DOST Caraga Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL), where they gained practical experience in laboratory operations and quality management systems essential to their careers.

Throughout the program, the trainees were immersed in various laboratory activities, including food and water testing, instrument calibration, sensory laboratory operations, and knowledge on ISO/IEC 17025:2017. These experiences enhanced their technical competencies, strengthened their analytical and laboratory skills, and prepared them for future careers.

This year's batch was composed of eight BS Biology (Major in Microbiology) students and six BS Chemistry students from Caraga State University–Main Campus.

The program featured inspirational messages from Ms. Jennifer J. Dejarme, DOST Caraga RSTL Technical Manager, and Cinderella D. Raganas Jr., OJT Adviser, who commended the trainees for their diligence, professionalism, and valuable contributions throughout their internship. They also encouraged them to uphold the knowledge, skills, and values they acquired as they pursue their future academic and professional endeavors.

The successful completion of the internship program reflects the strong and continuing partnership between DOST Caraga and Caraga State University in developing a highly skilled science and technology workforce. Through experiential learning and industry exposure, DOST Caraga remains committed to nurturing future professionals who will contribute to advancing science, technology, and innovation for the benefit of communities and national development.

𝐃𝐎𝐒𝐓 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐞𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐭 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐠𝐚 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲

Reinforcing the importance of accurate and reliable laboratory measurements, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Caraga served as a technical resource during the Basic Metrology and Calibration of Laboratory Equipment Training organized by the Caraga State University (CSU) Chemistry Department on July 22–23, 2026.

Representing DOST Caraga's Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL), Supervising Science Research Specialist Ms. Jennifer J. Dejarme, together with Mr. Gideon M. Tanghal and Mr. Christian M. de Guzman, served as resource speakers. They guided participants through the fundamentals of metrology, proper calibration of laboratory equipment, measurement traceability, uncertainty of measurement, and best practices for ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory results. Practical demonstrations allowed participants to apply these concepts in real laboratory settings.

Faculty members and personnel from CSU's Chemistry and Biology Laboratories, along with other laboratory practitioners, participated in the training. Through interactive discussions and hands-on activities, participants gained a deeper understanding of how proper calibration and standardized measurement practices help produce dependable laboratory results that support research, education, quality assurance, and informed decision-making.

Through its RSTL - Metrology Laboratory, DOST Caraga continues to provide technical expertise and capacity-building initiatives that promote quality, precision, and measurement excellence among academic institutions, industries, and other stakeholders across the Caraga Region.

To strengthen institutional capability, the Caraga State University – Department of Chemistry recently visited the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Caraga Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL) for a technical visit.

The visit provided CSU staff with firsthand exposure to RSTL-Caraga’s established laboratory systems and best practices in chemical handling, inventory management, laboratory safety, and regulatory compliance.

Through this engagement, CSU staff gained valuable technical guidance that will help enhance their own laboratory management systems and support safe and compliant operations to address regulatory and statutory requirements.

This highlights the importance of knowledge-sharing and collaboration in advancing scientific excellence and strengthening laboratory services in Caraga.

The Regional Standards and Testing Laboratory (RSTL) of DOST Caraga successfully completed its First Surveillance Visit with Special Assessment under PNS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 on March 24–26, 2026, conducted by the Philippine Accreditation Bureau (Department of Trade and Industry).

This significant milestone underscores DOST Caraga’s unwavering commitment to upholding international quality standards, ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and credibility of its testing and calibration services. Through continuous adherence to ISO standards, the RSTL strengthens trust among stakeholders and supports industries, research institutions, and communities across the region.

The assessment yielded positive results, including the recommended continuation of all existing signatories from the Chemical, Microbiological, and Metrology Laboratories, the approval of additional signatories for the Chemical and Microbiological Laboratories, and the grant of expanded accreditation scope for the Metrology Laboratory, particularly on Temperature Controlled Enclosures.

More than a compliance requirement, this achievement reflects DOST Caraga’s vital role in advancing quality infrastructure and fostering a culture of excellence—ensuring that services delivered to Caraganons meet globally recognized standards and contribute to safe, innovative, and competitive industries.

Under this arrangement, the DOST Caraga Regional Office and the DOST Provincial Offices in Agusan del Norte, Agusan del Sur, Surigao del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and Dinagat Islands will be open to the public from Monday to Thursday, 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM only, while Fridays to Sundays will be non-working days.
This initiative supports government efforts to conserve energy while ensuring uninterrupted public service.

Meanwhile, after placing third last quarter, DOST climbed to second place this quarter in terms of trust rating.
DOST’s approval rating this quarter is significantly higher than last quarter’s, reflecting growing public confidence in the agency’s programs and initiatives.
This recognition highlights DOST’s continued commitment to delivering inclusive, science-driven solutions and opportunities that uplift the lives of every Filipino.
