7 May 2026 | Remembering Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos

Jose Abad Santos y Basco, a Kapampangan jurist, was the fifth Chief Justice of the Philippines. After declining President Manuel L. Quezon's invitation to join the government-in-exile abroad, Abad Santos served as the Acting President of the Commonwealth of the Philippines and Acting Commander-in-Chief of its armed forces during World War II.

Captured by enemy forces, he refused to collaborate with the occupation government despite the danger to his life. Because of his unwavering loyalty to the Filipino people and the Commonwealth government, he was executed in May 1942.

Shortly before he faced a firing squad, he shared a final moment of strength with his son, saying:
"Do not cry, Pepito. Show these people that you are brave. It is a rare opportunity for me to die for our country. Not everyone is given that chance."

The Angeles City Justice Zone (ACJZ) joins the city and the nation in commemorating Chief Justice Jose Abad Santos's life and his legacy of justice, service, and patriotism.

20 April 2026 | AUF Law leads a roundtable discussion with other stakeholders

The Angeles City Justice Zone (ACJZ) proudly celebrates its 7th anniversary with a week-long series of activities from 20–24 April 2026, highlighting collaboration, innovation, and strengthened commitment among justice sector stakeholders.

As part of the anniversary celebration, the ACJZ is pleased to announce that one of its invaluable members, the Angeles University Foundation School of Law (AUF Law), is finalizing its work plan for the Clinical Legal Education Program (CLEP) for Academic Year 2026–2027.

A significant component of this work plan involves coordination, projects, and activities with fellow justice zone members, particularly in the areas of Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC), Land Issues, and Financial Account and Fraud Crimes.

To identify key drivers, challenges, and possible entry points in strengthening efforts to combat VAWC, a roundtable discussion—moderated by AUF Law CLEP Director Camille Ross Parpan—was held, focusing on statutes and local ordinances addressing VAWC and Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC), with particular attention to their enforcement and implementation. The participants were ACJZ Convenor Eda P. Dizon, RTC Vice Executive Judge Ramon Corazon P. Blanco, Angeles City Councilor Jeselle Ann V. Dayrit, Family Court Judge April Joy B. Magsayo-Aguila, District Public Attorney Lordelyn Lacap, Social Welfare Officer Ana Rose F. Lansang, IBP Pampanga Chapter President Catherine Mesuelo, and representatives from Gender and Development Office. Also present during the exchange were AUF Law Associate Dean Marianne Beltran-Angeles and Social Worker Ester D. Dating.

The results of the roundtable discussion will be used by AUF Law as part of the initial data for its work plan on VAWC and corresponding projects and activities.

20 April 2026 | Launching of the Lawyer of the Day Initiative (LODI) at the Angeles City Hall of Justice

The Angeles City Justice Zone (ACJZ) proudly celebrates its 7th anniversary with a week-long series of activities from 20–24 April 2026, highlighting collaboration, innovation, and strengthened commitment among justice sector stakeholders.

The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) Pampanga Chapter, an active member of the ACJZ, formally launched the Lawyer of the Day Initiative (LODI) at the Angeles City Hall of Justice in celebration of the justice zone's anniversary. This milestone marks a meaningful step toward expanding access to legal assistance within the justice system.

By establishing LODI within the Hall of Justice, the initiative aims to achieve three important goals: first, to help indigent citizens in need of legal assistance; second, to reinforce the efforts of partner institutions such as the Public Attorney’s Office and AUF Law’s Clinical Legal Education Program in providing legal aid services; and third, to support lawyers in Angeles City and nearby areas in complying with the Supreme Court’s Unified Legal Aid Service (ULAS) requirements.

IBP Pampanga Chapter President Catherine Mesuelo and Chapter Secretary Kristine Keith Colle presented the background and procedures of the Supreme Court’s ULAS and IBP's LODI, underscoring their importance in delivering timely and accessible legal support to the public.

These efforts reflect the continued commitment of justice sector partners to ensure that legal assistance is more accessible, efficient, and responsive to the public.

The LODI is located at the IBP Satellite Office, Ground Floor, Angeles City Hall of Justice and is open for consultations from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. serving qualified beneficiaries.
