As Josh’s uncle, I am deeply disappointed by the remarks made about him on Machong Chismisan. As National President of Autism Society Philippines, I am equally concerned by how persons with autism continue to be ridiculed under the guise of comedy.

Josh’s autism is not a punchline. No person with disability deserves to be humiliated for entertainment, regardless of their family background or personal circumstances.

Podcasts and digital platforms have the power to shape public attitudes. They should be used to promote awareness, understanding, and acceptance, not perpetuate prejudice and discrimination. Freedom of expression comes with responsibility, and calling something a joke does not automatically excuse conduct that violates the rights and dignity of persons with disabilities.

To Josh, and to every person with autism and every family who has experienced the pain of being misunderstood or ridiculed: you deserve better. You deserve a society that recognizes your humanity, acknowledges your abilities, respects your individuality, and protects your dignity.

Let us build a culture where no one is humiliated simply for being different. Disability inclusion is not a matter of sympathy; it is a matter of rights, dignity, and respect. Dignity is not negotiable, and inclusion must be reflected not only in our words but also in how we treat one another.

Josh is the eldest son of my cousin, Kris Aquino, and I stand by him and every person with autism in the call for a society that treats everyone with dignity and respect.

STATEMENT ON RIDICULE ON A PODCAST

The Autism Society Philippines reminds content creators and podcasters that Republic Act No. 7277, prohibits public ridicule and vilification of persons with disabilities. Violations may carry fines or imprisonment.

As a community, we must not give our precious time to watching creators and listening to podcasts not capable of basic respect.

Disability is not a punchline. Freedom of expression must never come at the expense of the rights and humanity of persons with disabilities.

When I watched β€œNasaan ang Antipolo?” by Sir Howie Severino and the I-Witness team, I was moved by the story of our beloved city and the importance of preserving its natural and cultural heritage. The documentary made me reflect on how much of Antipolo’s identity is rooted in the things we often take for granted, including the Antipolo tree, from which our city derives its name.

I realized that appreciating our heritage must go beyond remembering its history. We must take concrete steps to protect it.

That realization inspired me to file a proposed ordinance institutionalizing the conservation, protection, and propagation of the Tipolo tree (Artocarpus blancoi (Elmer) Merr.) in Antipolo City. This measure is now City Ordinance No. 2025-1178, otherwise known as the Antipolo Tree Propagation and Conservation Ordinance.

For me, this is a reminder of what public service should be: listening, learning, and turning what we learn into meaningful action for our people and our city.

My hope is that more AntipoleΓ±os will come to appreciate the significance of our Antipolo tree and take pride in the heritage that makes Antipolo uniquely ours. Preserving our heritage is not only about honoring the past; it is also about ensuring that future generations will have something meaningful to inherit.

Maraming salamat, Sir Howie Severino and the entire I-Witness team, for telling this story and inspiring us to act. Your documentary helped us see our city’s heritage in a new light and reminded us that protecting it is a responsibility we all share.

The City Planning, Development, and Sustainability Office (CPDSO) presents Baguio City’s URBAN CARRYING CAPACITY, establishing the limits and thresholds of our city’s resources and infrastructure to guide the proposed Comprehensive Land Use Plan (CLUP) and Zoning Ordinance (ZO).

KEY HIGHLIGHTS:

BEYOND SUSTAINABLE THRESHOLDS: Recent assessments reveal that the city’s water supply, road networks, forest cover, green cover, and solid waste collection have already exceeded their sustainable limits, signaling a critical need for careful planning and resource management.

A SHIFT IN URBAN PLANNING: To prevent further environmental degradation, the city’s development strategy must transition from outward expansion to resource-efficient, compact development focused on urban regeneration and the protection of remaining watersheds and green spaces.

FROM CAPACITY TO ACTION: The Carrying Capacity assessment directly informs the CLUP by defining where growth can sustainably occur, which the Zoning Ordinance then translates into specific, enforceable development rules, such as Building Coverage Ratios and Floor Area Ratios.

Information materials will help the residents understand the connection between the various city’s plans.
