Today, as we mark Ninoy Aquino Day every August 21, we remember not just a date on the calendar, but a moment that changed the course of our history. On this day in 1983, former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" S. Aquino Jr. was assassinated at the Manila International Airport upon returning from exile—a tragedy that ignited public outrage and eventually led to the People Power Revolution of 1986.

The holiday was formally established through Republic Act No. 9256, signed into law by President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on February 25, 2004—exactly 21 years after Ninoy's death and 18 years after People Power. Unlike regular holidays, Ninoy Aquino Day is a special non-working holiday.

Today, the Philippines observes a national holiday, 𝑽𝒂𝒍𝒐𝒓 𝑫𝒂𝒚, 𝒐𝒓 𝑨𝒓𝒂𝒘 𝒏𝒈 𝑲𝒂𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒏.

We remember the fall of the Bataan Peninsula during World War II and honor the bravery and sacrifice of the soldiers who fought for our freedom.

On this day, we pay tribute to our Filipino war veterans and all who served with courage and dedication, in both peace and war, to defend our nation and safeguard the freedom we cherish today.
