SAFE SCHOOL INITIATIVE: Building Safer and More Prepared Schools in the Municipality of Bacarra!

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Bacarra Station Bfp RegionOne Bacarra IlocosNorte conducted the Safe School Initiative at Cabulalaan Integrated School, bringing together key agencies and responders to strengthen the safety, preparedness, and emergency response capabilities of the school community.

The activity was participated in by the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office Bacarra DRRMC, Philippine National Police PNP Bacarra Municipal Police Station, Ilocos Norte PPO, and Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Bacarra Substation.

The BFP discussed practical safety measures and earthquake safety, equipping the school community with actionable steps to prevent incidents and respond appropriately during emergencies.

The MDRRM Office discussed disaster preparedness and response measures, particularly those related to typhoons and other weather-related hazards. She highlighted DepEd Order No. 22, s. 2024, which provides guidelines on the suspension of classes during inclement weather and other emergency situations. She also reminded parents and guardians to exercise sound judgment and prioritize the safety of their children when deciding whether to send them to school during severe weather conditions, especially when no official class suspension has yet been announced or posted. Parents were encouraged to remain vigilant, monitor official advisories, and make informed decisions based on prevailing weather and safety conditions.

The PCG reinforced the importance of water safety and drowning prevention, promoting responsible behavior and awareness of potential hazards in aquatic environment.

The PNP provided guidance on school active attack/shooting incidents, focusing on appropriate response measures, situational awareness, personal safety, and coordination with authorities during critical situations.

The Safe School Initiative was attended by the School Faculty and Staff of Cabulalaan Integrated School, the School PTA, and the Barangay Officials of Barangay #32 Corocor, Barangay #33 Cabulalaan, Barangay #35 Pipias, and Barangay #36 Natba.

Through the Safe School Initiative, schools and partner agencies work together to create a culture of safety, preparedness, prevention, and resilience.

Because a safe school is a prepared school.

The Municipality of Bacarra successfully concluded its celebration of National Resilience Month 2026 with the theme: โ€œNaghahanda at Kumikilos Tungo sa Panatag na Bagong Pilipinasโ€, reaffirming its commitment to building a safer, more prepared, and more resilient community with a message "Resilience starts at home".

One of the highlights of the celebration was the "Community Resilience Awareness Forum", participated in by our dedicated parent leaders. The forum strengthened awareness on disaster preparedness, risk reduction, and the vital role of every family in fostering a resilient community.

The celebration also showcased the creativity and talents of our youth through the "Poster-Slogan Contest" for elementary learners and the "Digital Art Making Contest" for high school students. Their remarkable entries reflected the importance of disaster resilience, preparedness, and community cooperation, inspiring everyone to become advocates of resilience.

The Municipality of Bacarra extends its heartfelt congratulations and gratitude to "all the participants" for sharing their creativity, passion, and talent. Your inspiring works remind us that resilience is not only built through action but also through awareness, education, and innovation.

We likewise express our sincere appreciation to our distinguished panel of judges from the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), Municipal Assessor's Office, Municipal Health Office, Agricultural Biosystems Engineering Office, PPSK, BFP Bacarra Station, and PCG Bacarra Substation. Your time, expertise, and impartial evaluation greatly contributed to the success and credibility of the competitions.

LOOK! Twenty-six (26) public and private schools participated in the Provincewide Schools Simultaneous Earthquake Drill pursuant to Executive Order No. CAM 074-026, Series of 2026, issued by Hon. Cecilia Araneta Marcos, Provincial Governor Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte

The simultaneous drill strengthened earthquake preparedness and reinforced the importance of coordinated emergency response among schools and institutions. It promoted a culture of safety, resilience, and disaster preparedness throughout the province while enhancing coordination and collaboration among government agencies, educational institutions, stakeholders, and the community to ensure a more effective and unified response during emergencies.

The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of Bacarra convened a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) Meeting to strengthen preparedness and ensure a coordinated response to the potential impacts of Tropical Depression Kiyapo.

The meeting brought together concerned municipal offices, response agencies, and other key stakeholders to assess the possible risks and hazards, review preparedness measures, identify vulnerable areas and communities, and discuss appropriate response actions.

The MDRRMC emphasized the importance of early preparation, close coordination, timely information dissemination, and proactive decision-making to minimize the potential impacts of the weather disturbance and ensure the safety and protection of the people of Bacarra.

Through collective action and a whole-of-community approach, the Municipality of Bacarra remains committed to strengthening disaster preparedness and ensuring that all necessary measures are in place before, during, and after the threat of Tropical Depression Kiyapo.
