NEW SPECIES ALERT

Former Trustee, University of the Philippines Los Baños Professor Emeritus Edwino Fernando, together with Australian Institute of Botanical Science Professor Peter Wilson, discovered a new endemic tree species: 🌳Tristaniopsis flexuosa🌳

The newly discovered tree species grows up to 3 meters tall, and can only be found in Mount Redondo on Dinagat Islands.

A specimen of the Tristaniopsis flexuosa was deposited at the UPLB Museum of Natural History and Forestry Herbarium and Wood Collection.

For further documentation of its ecology and growth habit, the Foundation recently approved a project dedicated to the taxonomic authentication of more Philippine native metallophytes. Through this initiative, we aim to improve the sustainable management of our ultramafic forests.
