PENRO Siquijor Plants 189 Jackfruit Trees in Biofencing Activity for World Environment Day and Philippine Eagle Week 2026 πππ
In a meaningful celebration of World Environment Day and Philippine Eagle Week 2026, personnel from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Siquijor conducted a Biofencing activity along the boundary of the Mt. Bandilaan Forest Reserve facing Barangay Cantabon, Municipality of Siquijor.
The initiative involved planting a total of 189 jackfruit trees spanning 723 linear meters. The use of fruit trees aims to enhance food sources for local wildlife, while providing benefits to the community and helping preserve the areaβs rich biodiversity.
Aside from the planting activity, PENRO Siquijor also distributed 311 free seedlings of jackfruit, marang, guabano, and sampalok to the participants.
The event was actively supported by partners from the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Cantabon, Philippine National Police, Philippine Coast Guard, and Philippine Army.
This collaborative effort highlights the shared commitment of government agencies and local communities in environmental protection and sustainable development in the province.
