PIF Sectoral Response

The Public Interest Forum (PIF) was created by the original convenors, headed by Fr. Pasquin, during the campaign period to counter propaganda and fake news permeating media before, during,and after elections in case you know who wins ( he won). PIF was intended to be non partisan, objective, factual to retain credibility. We were not formally pro Leni then.

However we saw how the Leni campaign was based on goodness, gracefulness, simplicity, and truth. We saw how the Leni campaign brought about the best in the Filipino people. Leni gave us hope. Individually and then as a body we supported and endorsed Leni's candidacy, even though we heard from insider sources that the election was a done deal already days before the election. Nevertheless, we were dismayed and distraught when the partial and unofficial results came from out of the blue.

Democracy requires eternal vigilance, a requirement we failed to sustain after the 1986 People Power Revolution. We have the opportunity to do it right this time. Let us not lose hope. Let us continue the struggle of Leni to bring back decency and honesty in Philippine politics. We owe it to the country. We owe it to the people. We owe it to the millions of people who volunteered to bring the message out.

The fight is not over. It only has begun and we proudly stand side by side with you in the crucial months to come. Padayon.

REMAIN VIGILANT AND READY TO RESIST ATTEMPTS TO UNDERMINE OUR DEMOCRATIC AND SOVEREIGN LIFE

The PIF expresses its concern over the trends in the run up to May 9, 2022. One is the flooding of social media by surveys leading the public to believe that BBM-Sara ticket is the sure winner in the elections. This narrative is hyped by various surveying and think tank outlets whose slant is often for BBM-Sara. This sort of trend of setting also serves as a justification that should BBM lose to Robredo it's the latter and her supporters to be blamed.

Two is the persistent bashing of VP Leni Robredo and Kiko Pangilinan by a huge army of trolls, BBM-Sara groups, and administration supporters, and the repeated narrative charging the Leni-Kiko big rallies as muscle-flexing for anti-BBM people power when Leni if is defeated, and worse, that these rallies are backed by the leftist groups.

Three, pro administration political figures and pro-Marcos and Duterte groups have been making the round, spinning lies that the pro-Robredo groups plan to provoke and stir destablization should Leni lose to BBM. The same accusers are warning that President Duterte will not hesitate to impose emergency rule and establish a revolutionary government should anti-BBM Sara protests turn loose, big and wild.

The PIF is worried that the outcome of any of these trends, especially the return of Marcoses and perpetuation of Duterte in power, could extol heavily on our people's rights, welfare, safety, and our nation's stability.

Nonetheless, PIF's stand that our choice for a national leadership should be on the basis of their character, exemplary track records in good governance, honesty to oneself and truthfulness to historical records, capacity to address our declining economy and worsening indebtedness, and no less capacity to unify our people in their quest for a life of prosperity with dignity, sovereignty, and peace.

In this regard, the PIF calls on the people and faith communities to keep their vigilance and
readiness at all times to stand up and resist all
attempts at undermining the pillars of our democratic and sovereign life.

Please share, get the message out. BBM's spin doctors are hard at work selling the idea that a BBM victory is inevitable. The sad thing is too many people, one is too many as far as I am concerned, bit the bait, hook, line, and sinker. But there is nothing really to support this lie. BBM is not leading the race despite the unconvincing statistics rammed at our throats by survey groups that are dubious at best. The size and energy of BBM rallies cannot compare to that of Leni rallies. BBM and the cabal of incumbents supporting them are vote buying at a horrific rate. Their propaganda machinery is well paid and they are doing a fair job in confusing the people. But they don't have the intangibles going for them. People had to be paid to attend BBM rallies. Leni's kakampinks spend their own money to ensure the success of Leni and Kiko rallies. BBM rallies are vulgar, their supporters are unruly, while Leni rallies are creative, inspiring, heart and soul warming. Leni's senatorial slate is composed of honest and diligent cause oriented people while the BBM slate has Gadon, Robin Padilla, a dancing queen in the person of a former press secretary, buffoons one and all and the worst trapos in the land. BBM has the vote buying machinery entrenched at the local LGU level. They will buy votes, steal votes, disinfranchise the youth voters in the coming election. Yet they will fail just because quality will always triumph in the end. Keep the faith, follow your heart, choose quality over machinery. There is goodness in the Filipino people and hopefully this goodness will prevail.
