BACOLOD CITY โ€” A total of 159 out of 178 registered applicants, representing an impressive 89.33% turnout rate, successfully sat for the Department of Agriculture - Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR) Fisheries Scholarship Program - Nationwide Qualifying Examination (FSP-NQE) yesterday, October 10, 2026. As the examination was simultaneously administered across the country, three designated testing centers facilitated the exam in the Negros Island Region: Bago City College in Negros Occidental, Calindagan Elementary School in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental, and Candaping National High School in Maria, Siquijor. The nationwide qualifying test aims to select deserving students to receive full college scholarship grants to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries.

Through this flagship DA-BFAR human resource development initiative, successful scholars will receive monthly living stipends, book allowances, and comprehensive academic support throughout their degree. DA-BFAR NIR commends all examinees, testing coordinators, and proctors for ensuring a smooth and successful examination day across the region.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Negros Island Region (BFAR-NIR), through its Finance and Administrative Section, successfully concluded the 4-day orientation on Records Management, Documents Control, Freedom of Information (FOI), and Gender and Development (GAD). The subsequent sessions featured interactive workshops on Gender Sensitivity, GAD integration, Basic Records Management, and Records Disposition.

Participants engaged in hands-on exercises reflecting Central Office best practices before officially closing the program with feedback sessions and the giving of certificates. Through this effort, BFAR NIR reinforces its commitment to operational efficiency, gender-responsive governance, and transparent public service for the regional fisheries sector.

The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Negros Island Region (BFAR NIR) kicked off a four-day orientation on Records Management, Documents Control, Freedom of Information (FOI), and Gender and Development (GAD). Welcoming representatives from various divisions, sections, and Provincial Fisheries Offices, OIC Regional Director Rene B. Parreรฑo highlighted the activity's vital role in bolstering operational efficiency, administrative capacity, and gender sensitivity across the newly formed region.

Resource speakers from the BFAR Central Office led the initial sessions, with Michelle S. Fontelar heading a discussion on FOI guidelines, request processes, exempt data, and compliance liabilities. Alongside Records Section Chief Mary Joy A. Malvas, the speakers will continue guiding personnel through key administrative functions to ensure efficient governance and service delivery to local fisherfolk.

The Department of Agricultureโ€”Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resourcesโ€“Negros Island Region, through the Development of Salt Industry Project (DSIP), conducted the Training on Bookkeeping and Product Costing for Salt Producers on September 22โ€“23, 2026, at Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

The two-day activity brought together salt producers and LGU Fisheries Extension Officers from Cauayan, Pulupandan, Bago City, Escalante City, San Enrique, and Dumaguete City with the support of resource persons from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Ms. Maybel R. Obcena, Trade Industry Development Analyst, and Ms. Raquel C. Hernando, Junior Business Counselor of Negosyo Centerโ€“Victorias City.

The training focused on strengthening the participants' practical skills in business recording, bookkeeping, and product costing. Participants were guided in maintaining transaction records, recording business expenses and sales, understanding basic bookkeeping and accounting principles, and preparing basic financial statements.

Discussions and hands-on exercises on product costing also helped participants understand the different costs involved in producing salt and the importance of determining accurate production costs in managing their businesses.

The activity provided participants with practical knowledge and tools that can support better financial monitoring, proper documentation, cost management, and informed business decisions in their respective salt-producing activities.

Through the continued collaboration of BFAR-NIR, DTI, LGUs, and salt producers, the training contributes to strengthening the business and enterprise management capabilities of salt producers and supporting the sustainable development of the salt industry in the Negros Island Region.

The DA-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources โ€“ Negros Island Region (DA-BFAR NIR) successfully conducted its first-ever MMK, OK! Fun Run on September 27, 2026, as part of the launching of ๐Œ๐š๐ฅ๐ข๐ง๐ข๐ฌ ๐š๐ญ ๐Œ๐š๐ฌ๐š๐ ๐š๐ง๐š๐ง๐  ๐Š๐š๐ญ๐ฎ๐›๐ข๐ ๐š๐ง (๐Œ๐Œ๐Š) ๐Ÿ.๐ŸŽ: ๐“๐ก๐ž ๐’๐ž๐š๐ซ๐œ๐ก ๐Ÿ๐จ๐ซ ๐Ž๐ฎ๐ญ๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐  ๐‚๐จ๐š๐ฌ๐ญ๐š๐ฅ ๐š๐ง๐ ๐ˆ๐ง๐ฅ๐š๐ง๐ ๐‚๐จ๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฎ๐ง๐ข๐ญ๐ฒ. The activity brought together around 700 participants from across the Negros Island Region and partner agencies to promote clean, healthy, and productive coastal and inland waters.

DA-BFAR NIR OIC Regional Director Rene B. Parreรฑo emphasized the importance of collective action in protecting aquatic resources and advancing sustainable fisheries. He also expressed his appreciation to everyone who came together in support of the MMK, OK! advocacy. The event featured 5K, 3K, and 1K fun run categories, followed by Zumba, basketball activities, and a Wall of Commitment signing. The celebration concluded with the recognition of top runners, reinforcing the message: โ€œMalinis ang Katubigan, Masagana ang Kinabukasan!โ€ ๐ŸŒŠ๐Ÿ’™

Please be informed that work at the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources - Negros Island Region (BFAR NIR) is suspended on September 28, 2026, starting at 1:00 PM in observance of Kainang Pamilya Mahalaga Day.
