This is not about medical or trauma cases that we faces everyday, this is to address our concerns regarding for the alarming happenings in the public/private schools in the Philippines.

Our schools should be a safe places, not places where bad things happen. Every time something bad happens at school people get really scared and worried on media. They share a lot of information that's not true and they want to fix the problem right away. The students, teachers and parents are really upset. They have every right to be.. To make our schools safe for a long time we need to look at what is really going on and make sure the people in charge do their job.

To the Public and Students

Some posts on media make things sound worse than they are and they take our attention away from what is really wrong with school safety. We also need to remember that making students do training like ROTC is not a simple solution to make our schools safe. Doing drills is not the same as having good security controlling guns or helping students with mental health problems. Being disciplined on a parade ground does not stop someone from bringing a weapon into school. We also need to understand how the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act works. This law does not mean that young people who do things get away with it. If they are old enough and they know what they are doing they will have to go to court and get help. The problem is that local governments do not build and take care of places where young people can get help.

To Politicians and School Administrators

The people in charge need to make sure our schools are safe by checking the security and making sure no one can bring guns into school. Schools need to have counseling services that're easy to access so they can help students before they get too upset and do something bad. Our leaders also need to make sure local governments take care of the people who get into trouble and provide them with the help they need.

True school safety will not come from what people say on the internet or from solutions. We need a system that works, with security help for mental health problems and a legal system that is fair and supported. School safety requires schools to have security measures, mental health resources and supported legal institutions. This is what will make our schools safe places, for students, teachers and parents.
