A slight increase in inflation indicates that prices of food, transportation, and other basic goods may be rising again. While inflation remains manageable, sustained increases in prices can affect household purchasing power if income growth does not keep pace. The pioneering three-day planning session exclusively for RDC NIR PSRs strengthened their understanding of their mandates, enhanced their policy advocacy capacities, aligned their priorities with the region’s long-term development agenda, and equipped them to effectively articulate grassroots concerns within the RDC.

The Department of Economy, Planning, and Development (DEPDev) said that this historic milestone is driven by sustained growth, sound macroeconomic management, and long-term structural reforms.

The World Bank confirmed the upgrade in its latest income assessment on Wednesday (July 1), reporting the Philippines’ gross national income (GNI) per capita as $4,850, exceeding the $4,636 UMIC threshold.

The shift was underpinned by steady economic expansion, with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growing by an average of 5.8 percent from 2021 to 2025. Strong performance across all industries raised GNI per capita by 8.5 percent in 2025, lifting the Philippines from the lower-middle into the upper-middle income category.

𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐌𝐎𝐌𝐄𝐍𝐓: DEPDev NIR joins Nat’l Nutrition Month Kick-off in Dumaguete City

Atty. Jam M. Colas-Villaber, OIC-Regional Director of DEPDev Negros Island Region, joined the observance of the 52nd Nutrition Month Celebration led by the National Nutrition Council this July 2026, anchored on the theme “Sa PPAN: Sama-Sama sa Nutrisyong Sapat Para sa Lahat!” and sub-theme “Nutrisyon at Kalikasan, Ating Pangalagaan!”

The activity highlights the importance of collective action in advancing the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023–2028 and promotes nutrition-sensitive, climate-responsive, and sustainable practices to ensure adequate nutrition for all Filipinos.

In support of this, Subchapter 3.1 of the Regional Development Plan NIR 2026-2028 focuses on ensuring food security and proper nutrition, as reflected in the framework presented. The strategy emphasizes achieving a sufficient and stable supply of food commodities, expanding access to affordable, safe, and nutritious food, and improving nutrition across all ages through strengthened food systems, agricultural productivity, and health interventions.

The observance reinforces the shared responsibility of national and local stakeholders in building a healthier, food-secure, and resilient Negros Island Region.

With this year's theme, "𝑵𝒂𝒈𝒉𝒂𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒂 𝒂𝒕 𝑲𝒖𝒎𝒊𝒌𝒊𝒍𝒐𝒔 𝑻𝒖𝒏𝒈𝒐 𝒔𝒂 𝑷𝒂𝒏𝒂𝒕𝒂𝒈 𝒏𝒂 𝑩𝒂𝒈𝒐𝒏𝒈 𝑷𝒊𝒍𝒊𝒑𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒔," DEPDev reaffirms the importance of proactive planning, evidence-based policymaking, and whole-of-government collaboration in reducing disaster risks and building resilient communities.

Aligned with the Philippine Development Plan (PDP) 2023–2028, the government continues to integrate disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, and adaptive development strategies into national and regional development planning.

Through sound policies and strategic investments, the government remains committed to supporting efforts that safeguard lives, protect livelihoods, and foster a more resilient and future-ready Philippines.
