Have you ever gone to the beach, stood still, and watched over the line where the sky and Earth seemed to meet? And as the sun sank beneath that line, have you wondered how far that horizon stretched…or wondered what lies beyond that boundary? A horizon is a boundary of what we can see—a range of what we know, perceive, or anticipate—but our hearts can set our vision where our eyes cannot see. The

official publication of Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital heralds the age of pushing the boundaries of health service delivery as we cast our visions beyond what our eyes can see. And as we embark on the journey of discovering new territories, we break the limits of what we know, what we can accomplish, and what we can be.

CLMMRH NDD and PHU Champion Sustainable Health and Community Wellness During the 52nd Nutrition Month Celebration
By: Ms. Michelle C. Sasana, RND - Nutrition and Dietetics Department (NDD)

In alignment with national health advocates and environmental sustainability goals, the Nutrition and Dietetics Department (NDD), in collaboration with the Public Health Unit (PHU) of the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH), successfully spearheaded the hospital-wide celebration of the 52nd Nutrition Month throughout July 2026.

Guided by the national theme, “Nutrisyon at Kalikasan Ating Pangalagaan!,” this initiative was brought to life under the guidance of NDD Head Ms. Aileen S. Neri and PHU leaders Ms. Catherine C. Infante and Ms. Neva Mae G. Tiangha, alongside Allied Health Division Chief Ms. Ana Rose H. Mahilum. The month-long program of events was conceptualized and spearheaded by the dedicated Nutrition Month Organizing Team – Ms. Roan P. Bambao, Mr. John Harold H. Descuatan and Ms. Michelle C. Sasana, with vital facilitation and coordination provided by the department’s Training Coordinator, Ms. Celeste C. Fudolin.

This institutional campaign officially commenced on July 7, 2026, with an emphasis on healthcare workforce wellness. Hospital personnel were provided with free nutrition assessments including Body Mass Index (BMI) evaluation, paired with wholesome local refreshments.

To maintain engagement and foster continuous learning throughout July, the organizing team conducted a weekly “Nutri-Quiz” series. Winners selected via electronic raffle were formally recognized during the hospital’s weekly Flag Ceremonies and awarded native coffee packs and fresh fruit baskets, thoughtfully arranged in custom containers handcrafted by the department’s creative staff. The personnel-focused initiatives officially concluded on July 31, 2026, with a culmination activity featuring nutrient-dense local fruit and vegetable beverages and snacks.

Demonstrating a firm commitment to patient education and community advocacy, the NDD and PHU team organized targeted activities for both inpatient and outpatient care areas.
The NDD organizing team conducted the “Teach Them Young” activity in the pediatric ward on July 14, 2026, introducing young patients and their parents to the principles of planetary health and sustainable nutrition. The initiative featured interactive learning sessions, character appearances, and the distribution of custom “Fruits & Vegetables” coloring books developed by the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, featuring original illustrations by Ms. Kurtlyn Hope Opsimar.

An interactive educational session was conducted at the Outpatient Department (OPD) on July 15, 2026. To actively support local agriculture and promote fresh food consumption, the organizing team sourced commodity packages including pinakbet, sinigang, tangkong, alugbate, and fresh produce bundles, directly from local farm vendors at Libertad Market to serve as educational incentive prizes for participating patients.

Extending its institutional care beyond hospital walls, CLMMRH conducted a community outreach activity at the Senior Sto. Niño Homes Orphanage, Brgy. Taculing, Bacolod City on July 30, 2026. Led by PHU leadership and NDD personnel, the team delivered educational lectures and recreational activities for the resident children. The initiative was made possible through extensive voluntary contributions from CLMMRH personnel across various departments and divisions, yielding substantial donations of essential food staples, rice, and hygiene supplies.

More than a series of commemorative events, the 52nd Nutrition Month celebration embodies CLMMRH’s holistic approach to public health, integrating preventive care, staff wellness, community support, and environmental awareness.

Through the collaborative efforts of NDD leadership, the PHU, the organizing team, hospital leadership, and participating personnel, CLMMRH reaffirms its ongoing commitment to promoting health literacy, supporting sustainable food environments, and serving as a proactive leader in community health across the region.

CLMMRH Personnel Participate in NCMH Immersion Program to Strengthen Geriatric-Psychiatric Mental Health Services
By: Keisha Charisse O. Digon, RPsy, RPm - Horizon Correspondent, Mental Health Unit

Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) continues to strengthen its mental health services as part of its efforts toward becoming a Basic Comprehensive Center for Mental Health in the Negros Island Region. Recognizing the growing need for specialized mental health care across different age groups, the hospital participated in the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) Immersion Program for Mental Health Aged Care Wellness Center held from May 25 to June 5, 2026, to further enhance the competencies of its healthcare personnel in providing quality geriatric-psychiatric mental health care.

The immersion program provided participants with both structured learning sessions and clinical exposure in the assessment and management of older adults with psychiatric and cognitive concerns. The program included learning sessions, case discussions, clinical observations, and reflection activities focused on Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment, depression among older adults, differentiation and management of dementia and delirium, behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia, caregiver support, and burnout prevention.

Representing CLMMRH were Dr. Cora S. Garzon, Mental Health Unit Nurse Supervisor; Mr. Noel S. Malo, Nurse III; and Ms. Josine Marie Y. Bergola, Nurse II, from the Mental Health Unit. Also participating in the immersion were Dr. Medelyn B. Bahonsua, Geriatrician; Ms. Maryjune T. Carinal, Nurse III; and Ms. Desiree D. Diel, Nurse III, from the Geriatric Care Center.

As part of the clinical immersion, the participants gained firsthand exposure to outpatient services and geriatric care units, allowing them to observe the delivery of multidisciplinary care, clinical assessment, treatment approaches, and support strategies for older adults with mental health and cognitive conditions.

The knowledge and experiences gained from the program will contribute to the continuous improvement of CLMMRH’s geriatric-psychiatric mental health services by strengthening the hospital’s workforce, enhancing clinical practices, and supporting the development of a more responsive and comprehensive care for older adult patients.

CLMMRH and CHD NIR Equip PDRP Physicians to Lead Healthcare Transformation Through CQI

With the vision of developing physician leaders who can transform healthcare systems, the Department of Health – Center for Health Development Negros Island Region (DOH CHD NIR) in collaboration with the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH), through its Continuing Medical Education Training and Research Unit (CMETRU), conducted the CQI Essentials: A Crash Course in Continuous Quality Improvement for Post-Residency Deployment Program (PRDP) CLMMRH Residency Graduates on July 28–30, 2026, at Acacia Hotel, Bacolod City.

The program formally commenced with opening remarks from CLMMRH Medical Center Chief II, Dr. Joan E. Cerrada, reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to producing physicians who are not only clinically competent but also equipped to become leaders in healthcare innovation and systems improvement.

Over the three-day training, participants were immersed in the fundamentals of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), including quality principles in healthcare, identifying system gaps, root cause analysis, the Plan-Do-Study-Act (PDSA) framework, healthcare performance indicators, monitoring and evaluation, and the formulation of six-month CQI work plans. The final day also focused on Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Services (MHPSS), with sessions on stress management, burnout prevention, resilience, mindfulness, and physician self-care, recognizing that resilient healthcare workers are essential to sustaining quality improvement efforts.

More than a technical course, the training embodies CLMMRH’s philosophy that its graduates should become agents of change wherever they are deployed. Many PRDP graduates will serve in Level 1 and Level 2 hospitals across the region. Rather than simply becoming workhorses in these institutions, DOH CHD NIR and CLMMRH envision them as physician-leaders who can identify healthcare gaps, implement evidence-based CQI initiatives, and inspire sustainable improvements that benefit both their hospitals and the communities they serve.

As the country advances toward the goals of Universal Health Care (UHC), DOH CHD NIR and CLMMRH believe that every residency graduate carries a responsibility beyond providing excellent clinical care.

Through initiatives such as the CQI Essentials Training, CLMMRH and DOH CHD NIR reaffirm their shared commitment to developing physicians who are not only outstanding clinicians but also champions of continuous quality improvement, ensuring that every residency graduate remains a relevant and transformative partner in the country’s UHC journey.

CLMMRH Benchmarks NCMH Crisis Hotline Operations to Strengthen Mental Health Services
By: Keisha Charisse O. Digon, RPsy, RPm - Horizon Correspondent, Mental Health Unit

In preparation for the establishment of a Mental Health Crisis Hotline, Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital (CLMMRH) conducted a benchmarking activity at the National Center for Mental Health (NCMH) in Mandaluyong City, on June 22, 2026, to gain insights into the operational processes and best practices involved in providing crisis intervention services.

The benchmarking activity was participated in by the CLMMRH delegation composed of Medical
Center Chief II Dr. Joan E. Cerrada; OIC-Chief of Medical Professional Staff (OIC-CMPS) Dr. Jorge Edward T. Masa; Mental Health Unit (MHU) Head, Dr. April Rose B. Hechanova-Espinosa; MHU Nurse
Supervisor Dr. Cora S. Garzon; and Psychologist III Ms. Keisha Charisse O. Digon.

The activity was spearheaded by the Mental Health Unit, in coordination with the hospital administration, as part of CLMMRH’s efforts to develop a functional and responsive Mental Health Crisis Hotline that will complement existing mental health services.

The establishment of a crisis hotline is being pursued in response to the increasing need for timely mental health support among individuals experiencing psychological distress, emotional
crises, and suicide-related concerns. While CLMMRH continues to provide outpatient consultations and hospital-based mental health services, there are situations in which individuals
require immediate psychological support at the onset of a crisis, before accessing or while awaiting appropriate clinical care. The crisis hotline is envisioned to complement existing services by providing an initial point of contact for crisis intervention, preliminary risk assessment, and appropriate referral to the necessary level of care.

During the benchmarking activity, the CLMMRH team gained insights into the operational processes of the NCMH Crisis Hotline, including crisis assessment, intervention procedures, documentation, referral pathways, and coordination mechanisms. The learnings from the activity will guide the development of CLMMRH’s Mental Health Crisis Hotline Policy, operational guidelines, and implementation processes to ensure that the proposed service is responsive to the needs of the hospital and the communities it serves.

This initiative is aligned with Republic Act No. 11036, or the Mental Health Act, which promotes accessible, integrated, and responsive mental health services. Through this undertaking, CLMMRH continues to strengthen its commitment to improving access to timely mental health support and enhancing systems for coordinated crisis response.
