In support of the schoolโs ongoing efforts to improve reading proficiency, a Reading Remediation Activity under the READS Program was successfully conducted during the School Year 2025โ2026 for selected Grade 7 and Grade 8 students. The activity was made possible through the collaboration of the supportive school head Victor A. Fernandez and the local police force, led by PCMS Graciano Bitaga, with other dedicated officers volunteering their time to assist learners experiencing reading difficulties.
Different reading sessions were conducted in both the classrooms and school grounds, employing guided, choral, and individual reading strategies for selected Grade 7 and Grade 8 students. The activity aimed to enhance reading fluency, comprehension, and pronunciation, while also strengthening relationships between students and community partners. Recognizing that literacy is a shared responsibility, members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) actively participated and supported the initiative.
Using a collaborative learning approach, students were organized into small groups facilitated by police officers Maโam Taguiling, Balog, and Molintas, along with two police interns, and assisted by language teachers Mrs. Precila Mayanggao and Ms. JM Vicente. Learners engaged in guided reading exercises, vocabulary activities, and comprehension tasks. To motivate participation and boost confidence, cash prizes were awarded to students who answered questions correctly.
The police officers played a key role in guiding students, encouraging them during reading drills, and creating a supportive environment that promoted active participation. PCMS Graciano Bitaga also shared motivational messages, emphasizing the value of literacy in personal and academic growth and strengthening positive relationships between students and law enforcement personnel.
On the whole, the Reading Remediation Activity highlighted the power of community partnership in education. The collaboration between the school and the police force served as an inspiring example of how different sectors can work together to support learners and promote literacy. The school looks forward to sustaining similar partnerships to further enhance studentsโ academic performance, particularly in reading.
