University of Cordilleras Donate Math Learning Resources to Baguio Schools

The University of the Cordilleras (UC), through the City Library, donated brand-new learning resources for Grades 3 to 6 learners on October 30, 2025. The materials, developed by the University of Chicago School Mathematics Project and published by McGraw-Hill Education, include five Mathematics titles with a total of 166 copies.

These learning resources were distributed on the same day to four public schools in Baguio City—Dontogan Elementary School, Rizal Elementary School, Kias Elementary School, and Baguio Country Club Elementary School.

The turnover and distribution were led by OIC Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Carmel F. Meris, together with the Curriculum Implementation Division’s Learning Resources Management Section staff. The initiative aims to strengthen mathematics learning in public elementary schools and support teachers in delivering quality education.

Baguio City, October 25, 2025 — The children and youth of Barangay Kias took part in “Am-amung ti Panagsala” (Gathering of Dances) at Kias Elementary School, a celebration of Cordilleran traditions and heritage. Through the joint efforts of the Kias Sangguniang Kabataan, NCIP Baguio, and Kias Elementary School, participants learned about tracing their genealogy, traditional Cordilleran clothing, dances, and musical instruments.

The event highlighted cultural performances and hands-on learning, fostering pride and appreciation among the youth for their indigenous roots and the vibrant traditions of the Cordillera.

Learners and parents in Kias, Baguio City had the opportunity to explore and trace their ancestral roots during the “Am-amung iti Panagsala” cultural workshop at the Kias gymnasium on Oct. 25, 2025. The NCIP Baguio led a session on genealogy and facilitated a workshop.

Kias Elementary School proudly represented district 2 at the Division Level Math & Science Festival held at Baguio City High School on October 25, 2025.

Our brilliant participants from Sci-Dama, Clyde Ezekiel Rivera (Grade 4) and Jhonfrey Masliyan (Grade 5), both showcased their wit, perseverance, and sportsmanship as they competed against 20 participating schools. Their dedication and determination earned them a commendable achievement as Masliyan earned a commendable 6th place — an impressive feat for our young science enthusiasts! 👏

In the Math Quiz and Number Race, our learners Jedmayce Miergas(Grade 4) Daryl Jay Bitog (Grade 5) and Jorly Kayle Palisoc (Grade 6) also gave their best efforts, engaging in exciting challenges such as measuring angles using protractors, forming shapes with geoboards, solving set problems, and critical problem-solving tasks. Our Math team placed Top 6, we take great pride in their outstanding performance and growth.

This experience truly reflected our learners’ determination to do their best and persevere throughout the competition.❤️

Kias Elementary School proudly showcased its learners’ excellence during the District 2 Science and Mathematics Festival 2025 held on October 16–18, 2025. The young scientists and mathematicians of KES demonstrated their skills, knowledge, and dedication as they brought home several awards across various events.

In the Science Festival, KES earned remarkable achievements in the Sci-Damath competition held at Springhills Elementary School. The winners were Khila B. Ngalloban (Grade 3) – 3rd Place, Clyde Ezekiel D. Rivera (Grade 4) – 2nd Place, Jhon Frey R. Masliyan (Grade 5) – 1st Place, and Lester U. Bagtang (Grade 6) – 3rd Place. Both Masliyan and Rivera, being Rank 1 and 2, will proudly represent District 2 in the upcoming Division Sci-Damath Meet. The KES team also secured 3rd Place in the Science Inquirace held at Fort del Pilar National High School, represented by Gillian Xia Faye A. Onghihon (Grade 4), Franz Mikhail P. Mendiola (Grade 5), and Ruan Rainz T. Capia-ao (Grade 6).

In the Mathematics Festival hosted by Kias Elementary School, the learners continued to shine. Jed Mayce M. Miergas (Grade 4) clinched 1st Place in the Individual Written Quiz Bee, while the dynamic duo Daryl Jay D. Bitog (Grade 5) and Jorly Kayle P. Palisoc (Grade 6) triumphed with 1st Place in the Number Race competition. As Rank 1 winners, Miergas, Bitog, and Palisoc will advance to the Division Mathematics Festival to represent District 2.

The entire Kias Elementary School community celebrates these outstanding victories and extends heartfelt congratulations to all the participants, their dedicated coaches, and supportive parents. Their collective effort and commitment continue to inspire and guide KES learners toward academic excellence and greater achievements.
