A Look Back at the 1990s Camp John Hay Share-A-Joy Program

In the wake of the devastating July 16, 1990, Luzon earthquake, the spirit of bayanihan shone brightly at Camp John Hay. Through the Share-A-Joy Program, hope and compassion were extended to families and communities affected by one of the country’s deadliest natural disasters.
More than a relief effort, the program became a symbol of unity, resilience, and the enduring generosity of the community — bringing comfort, joy, and renewed hope during a time of recovery.

At Camp John Hay, it’s not only the scenic spots that create memorable experiences. It has also been a venue for team buildings, retreats, and camporees.

Back in 1991, more than 500 scouts gathered at Scout Valley to train and enhance their outdoor skills, highlighting the camp's nature-based activities.
