At least 70 aspiring young agripreneurs have undergone a two-day training workshop on Business Model Canvas (BMC) and Financial Planning in preparation for their participation in the Young Farmersโ€™ Challenge (YFC) Program competition this year. The activity was held at the New Conference Hall of the Department of Agricultureโ€“Cordillera (DA-CAR) in Baguio City from August 13 to 14, 2026.

The activity aims to help participants properly develop their BMCs. Prior to the workshop, the participants were oriented on the YFC Program to provide them with initial ideas and insights on how to craft their BMCs.

The Department of Agricultureโ€“Cordillera Administrative Region (DA-CAR) is urging hog raisers to remain vigilant and strictly observe biosecurity measures at all times following the occurrence of confirmed African Swine Fever (ASF) cases in some parts of the region.

In a recent radio interview with Dr. Karl Glenn Kigis, Section Head of the Plant Pest and Animal Disease Monitoring, Surveillance and Early Warning Section, said that ASF cases during the first half of 2026 remain significantly lower compared to the past five years. However, recent field investigations revealed that some backyard hog raisers have loosened their biosecurity practices as the number of cases declined.

The Research Division, through its Research Outreach Stations (ROS), continues to strengthen the production and distribution of quality planting materials for farmers and communities.

ROS-Apayao and ROS-Kalinga recently received their certificates of accreditation from the Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI), recognizing their compliance with standards for producing quality planting materials and their commitment to expanding access to reliable planting resources.

ROS-Apayao is now an accredited plant nursery operator for sweet orange, mandarin, and calamansi, while ROS-Kalinga is accredited for Robusta coffee.

The accreditations reinforce the stationsโ€™ commitment to producing quality planting materials in sufficient quantities, helping farmers establish productive farms and supporting sustainable agricultural development in the region.

The Department of Agriculture- Cordillera (DA-CAR) continues to implement measures to address the effects of the recent typhoons and the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) on the agricultural sector in the region.

Based on the latest data reported by the Local Government Units (LGUs) through the Agencyโ€™s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Information System (DRRMIS), an initial 1,092 farmers and fisherfolk have been affected, with a reported total volume loss of 433.63 metric tons (MT) due to Typhoons Luis and Maymay and the Southwest Monsoon. These figures remain subject to continuing assessment, validation, and consolidation as additional reports are received from the affected areas.
