Nurturing Our Nurturers

Sto. Tomas Elementary School's empowered educators received a well-deserved day of pampering, thanks to Blue Phenix Skills Training Center. During their breaks, these dedicated women enjoyed free massages, manicures, and haircuts.

Beyond physical self-care, the day included an inspiring talk by 2019 Oustanding Woman Leader of Baguio City, Ma'am Rosalia Ocyaden, on the qualities of empowered individual.

It was a day of nurturing- a tribute to those who nurture our children with love and patience.

Planet Water Foundation and Watts Water Technologies have collaborated to bring the aqua water tower filtration system to Sto. Tomas Elementary School. This project provides safe drinking water for learners, teachers and the school community.

The school principal, Leonila Catungal, extended her gratitude to the benefactors, highlighting that this project contributes significantly to the children's ability to learn and grow. The reduction in waterborne diseases like diarrhea and other infections caused by contaminated water lead to fewer sick days, improved attendance, and better concentration in class.

The education group of Planet Water Foundation(PWF) also trained teachers in using modules on the following topics: Germs and How They Spread, How and When to Wash Your Hands, Healthy Hygiene and Habits, and Healthy Body Healthy Mind, to teach the learners. In addition to the teachers, Grade 1 pupils were taught how to properly care for their health through games, artwork, songs, and dances.

A Classroom Without Walls

Eco walks offer pupils a unique opportunity to learn outside the traditional classroom setting. These excursions allow learners to experience the sights, sounds, and smells of nature firsthand, making learning an immersive and engaging experience. By stepping into nature, students can witness the delicate balance of ecosystems and the interconnectedness of all living things.

Eco walks are an excellent way to instill a sense of responsibility and care for the environment. In addition to educational benefits, eco walks also promote physical and mental well-being.

These reasons underscore the importance of the eco walks that the SELG, YES-O, BKD, GSP/BSP in coordination with the LGU initiate at Sto. Tomas Elementary School.

STES Young Heroes: Ready to Save Lives!

On November 29th, 2024, Baguio City's youth took a significant step toward becoming everyday heroes. The Department of Education (DepEd), in partnership with the City Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO), provided young learners with essential Junior First Aider skills during a transformative training held at the CDRRMO in Lower Quezon Hill. This wasn't just a seminar; it was a life-changing experience.

These future lifesavers mastered crucial techniques, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and proper wound care. Under the expert guidance of certified professionals, they practiced CPR, learning how to assist someone whose breathing or heartbeat has stopped. The hands-on training built their confidence for real-life emergencies.

The students also learned to effectively bandage wounds—a skill vital for preventing infection and controlling bleeding until professional medical assistance arrives.

This initiative highlights DepEd's commitment to cultivating safety-conscious, community-oriented young citizens. By equipping these students with life-saving knowledge, Baguio City is building a brighter, safer future, one young hero at a time!
