PNP STATEMENT ON THE SHOOTING INCIDENT IN TACLOBAN CITY
The Philippine National Police (PNP) expresses deep concern over the shooting incident that occurred this morning inside a school in Tacloban City, which resulted in the deaths of three (3) minors and injuries to seven (7) other minors.
Responding police personnel immediately secured the area and arrested two (2) children in conflict with the law (CICLs) who are now under police custody. The two fi****ms allegedly used in the incident have likewise been recovered. Investigation is ongoing to determine the complete circumstances surrounding the case, including the reported bullying-related grudge as one of the angles being pursued.
Police Regional Office 8 has been directed to ensure a thorough investigation and the proper handling of the case in accordance with the law. At the same time, all police units are reminded to sustain police visibility and preventive patrols in and around schools, and to continue close coordination with school authorities, local government units, parents, and community stakeholders to further strengthen safety and security in educational institutions.
