The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) reported a 17 percent reduction in the crime incidents that were committed in the city during the first quarter of this year which is 61 incidents lower compared to the similar incidents during the same period last year.

BCPO City Director Police Col. Ruel D. Tagel said that under the peace and order indicators, index crimes in the city dropped to 44 incidents during the first three months of the year compared to the 60 cases or a 27 percent reduction.

Further, he claimed that a reduction of 31 incidents was noted by the police authorities in non-index crimes that represented a 33 percent reduction compared to the same period last year.

The BCPO official noted the exemplary crime clearance efficiency of 97.17 percent which is a testament to the skills and dedication of the trained investigators and that such accomplishments were the result of implementing strategic programs such as the Panag-aywan iti Kailyan 2.0, a community-based initiative designed to deliver essential services and assist those in need, especially those at risk of committing crimes.

He also highlighted the IMPLAN KALMAN PAGLALAKBAY, a comprehensive guide to ensuring safe and comfortable travel in the city for both residents and visitors.

According to him, equally important is the BCPO’s OPLA DRIVE, a focus plan for managing traffic and vehicular traffic incidents across the city in collaboration with the City Engineering Office (CEO) and other concerned offices of the local government.

Tagel disclosed that BCPO’s efforts in OPLAN DRIVE resulted in a 7 percent reduction of vehicular traffic incidents in the city equivalent to 61 fewer incidents compared to the previous year with 100 percent of all said cases cleared and solved.

The police official stipulated that BCPO also endeavored to improve its response capabilities through the conduct of regular simulation exercises that resulted in the swift response of police personnel to reported bomb threat incidents in the city.

On the other hand, BCPO continues to uphold moral and welfare among police personnel by facilitating three trainings and seminars courtesy of the local government that benefited some 200 personnel and supporting officer development through professionalization. - By Dexter A. See

𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: The key difference between a 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 and a 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 lies in their forecast period, coverage areas, and accuracy. A 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 provides forecasts for the next three hours and applies up to the municipal level. It is more precise as it utilizes Doppler radar technology to track real-time rainfall intensity, making it highly effective for immediate decision-making in flood-prone areas. A 𝐖𝐞𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲, on the other hand, covers a 24-hour period but is issued only at the provincial level. It provides a broader outlook on potential weather disturbances but lacks the short-term accuracy of 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬. For class suspensions or other official decisions, please refer to 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐲 𝐑𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐟𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 issued by the respective PAGASA Regional Services Divisions.
