Truck Allegedly Hits Communication Cables, Causing Power Interruption in Parts of La Trinidad and Sablan

LA TRINIDAD, BENGUET Around 7:36 PM last night, a power interruption was recorded and detected by BENECOโ€™s Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, affecting portions of Barangays Puguis, Wangal, Pico, and Poblacion in La Trinidad, as well as Barangays Bagong and Banengbeng in Sablan.

Barangay first responders received reports that a truck allegedly hooked communication cables, pulling down telecommunications poles and affecting three primary poles. One BENECO pole also had to be braced with a boom truck to prevent it from completely collapsing.

Punong Barangay Osburn Visaya said that PNP officers and barangay responders attempted to locate the truck, which reportedly fled the area after the incident, but were unsuccessful.

Visaya added that barangay officials will check nearby private CCTV cameras to determine whether any footage was captured that could help identify the vehicle and assist in the investigation.

BENECOโ€™s restoration team will work today to repair the damaged lines and poles and restore power to the remaining isolated areas. Major areas were restored at around 9:15 PM last night, while power was restored to some other areas early this morning.

Motorists traveling near the Puguis Communal Forest are advised to exercise caution due to downed telecommunications cables and the presence of a stationed boom truck in the area. La Trinidad police personnel are assisting in traffic management to ensure the safety of motorists and pedestrians.
