On March 26, 2026 the Municipality of Bakun, presented RESOLUTION NO. 49-2026 EXPRESSING PROFOUND CONDOLENCES AND SYMPATHY TO THE BEREAVED FAMILY OF THE LATE MR. IVAN TANDOC RUFINO OF BARANGAYS AMPUSONGAN AND POBLACION, BAKUN, BENGUET

The Municipality of Bakun, Benguet,and the entire Cordillera region mourn the untimely passing of Mr. Ivan Tandoc Rufino, a gifted local artist and composer, who departed from this life on March 21, 2026, due to a tragic vehicular accident.

Mr. Rufino, born on September 30, 1985, is the beloved son of Mrs. Maria Tandoc-Rufino, a retired teacher of Ampusongan National High School and the late Mr. David Rufino, an active community member.

Ivan is married to Rhea Palitayan Rufino and a loving father to their two children, Dirk Sebastian and Kiera Mae.

Ivan completed his primary and secondary education at Ampusongan Elementary School and Ampusongan National High School, respectively, laying the foundation for his future endeavors.

Ivan is a gifted, humble, and well-loved individual whose original musical compositions and soul-stirring performances as a singer, including cherished"kankana-ey" songs like "Kamanina," "Udan," "Biag," "Sungbat," and "Paradaan," among many others that have touched countless hearts, have beautifully captured the spirit and soul of the Cordilleran people.

His artistic contributions have not only enriched the cultural landscape of the region but have also brought immense pride and recognition to the Municipality of Bakun, showcasing the depth of local talent.

Ivan's legacy as an artist, a family man, and a cherished member of the community will continue to inspire and resonate, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were touched by his music and his spirit.

To enhance the participants’ knowledge and skills in nutrition planning, reporting, and data quality management, a Nutrition Program Planning workshop and orientation on the updated MELLPI Pro Tool was conducted on March 3 at the Function Hall, Ampusongan, Bakun, Benguet.

During the session, Ms. Hilaria B. Gabriel presented the 2024 MELLPI Pro results for barangays, including key findings and recommendations. Ms. Jemely M. Bagni, ND II from the Provincial DOH Office (PDOHO), facilitated the orientation on the updated MELLPI Pro Tool for the municipality and Barangay Nutrition Action Plan (BNAP) aligned with the tool, as well as the presentation of a sample nutrition situation. Meanwhile, Ms. Marilyn Mesa, ND II from the Provincial Health Office (PHO), discussed the Philippine Plan of Action for Nutrition (PPAN) 2023-2028 and the Local Nutrition Action Plan (LNAP) Implementation Plan. She also provided technical guidance on packaging the LNAP and orientation on OPT Plus Data Quality Check (DQC).

Participants included members of the Municipal Nutrition Committee and the Barangay Nutrition Committee.

The provision of technical assistance ensures that the Municipal Nutrition Action Plan (MNAP) is comprehensive, well-structured, and results-oriented. Through this initiative, the municipality is better equipped to address malnutrition and improve the nutritional status of the population, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant and lactating women, the elderly, and persons with disability.

BAKUN LASS BAGS BRONZE IN TABLE TENNIS

Rubilyn B. Esmeralda of Bakun Central School battled her way to a bronze medal finish in the Elementary Girls Table Tennis Singles on February 24 at the Ben Palispis Hall, Benguet Capitol,

Esmeralda showcased grit and determination, surviving the grueling round robin elimination format against a strong field of contenders.
Her bronze medal victory not only brought honor to her school and hometown but also underscored the rising talent of young table tennis players from across the province.

This initiative was not centered on conflict, but on finding a common ground that benefits both parties while prioritizing the welfare of the residents. By listening to the community, both municipalities aim to reach a resolution rooted in unity and long-term peace rather than debate.

𝐋𝐎𝐎𝐊 | The DILG-Benguet proudly congratulates the Municipalities of Bakun, Buguias, Itogon, Kibungan, La Trinidad, Sablan, Tuba, and Tublay for achieving High Functionality rating during the CY 2025 Anti-Drug Abuse Council (ADAC) National Performance Audit.

In the same assessment, the Province of Benguet along with the Municipalities of Atok, Bokod, Kabayan, Kapangan, and Mankayan were rated as Moderately Functional.

The ADAC Performance Audit and Awards serve as a vital platform to evaluate the effectiveness of local councils, identify innovative best practices, and recognize those who uphold the highest standards in the national campaign against illegal drugs.

𝗕𝗔𝗞𝗨𝗡, 𝗕𝗘𝗡𝗚𝗨𝗘𝗧 | Reliable communication can make the difference between safety and tragedy during emergencies. From February 10-12, 2026, the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)- Baguio-Benguet successfully assisted its ninth (9th) municipality in strengthening its Early Warning System for disaster prevention and mitigation through the provision of radio communication network devices and technical assistance under the Community Empowerment through Science and Technology (CEST) Program.

Implemented in partnership with the LGU-Bakun through the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), the initiative successfully connected six (6) out of seven (7) barangays directly to the Municipal Operations Center (OpCEN). This milestone strengthens coordination, speeds up emergency response, and ensures that critical information can be transmitted in real time; especially in geographically isolated and disaster-prone areas. The remaining barangay will be revisited for system installation and configuration to ensure full connectivity across the municipality.

𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗼 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗽𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺:
