Infrastructure and technology are crucial for a town to progress but knowledge increases Banna’s chances to realize its full potential.

🌽 The farms of Banna are the backbone of its economy. The launch of this corn farm in partnership with the Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office I (DA-RFO I) and the Ilocos Norte Research and Experiment Center (INREC) will strengthen that backbone.

Banna’s farmers work hard on a daily basis but for generations they bore the risks and costs of individual farming. While we respect the rural way of life and the independence of each farmer and farm, we know that scale matters when it comes to agriculture, the economy, and food security.

As John Leo Bungubung, Corn Area Coordinator for DA-INREC, clearly laid out during our briefing, clustering allows our farmers to access bulk procurement and shared resources, gives them direct access to modern farming technologies, modern seed varieties, and soil health strategies, and better bargaining power due to a unified and large harvest.
