Farm Safety Month, observed every August under Proclamation No. 115-A, s. 1966, reminds us of the importance of promoting safety, health, and proper practices in agricultural work.

From the proper use of farm machinery and tools to the use of protective equipment and safe handling of farm inputs, every precaution matters.

This month, let us strengthen our commitment in protecting the people behind every harvest.

The Maize-Saka briefing was held at the ABC Hall in Banna to orient and encourage corn farmers from different barangays to become members of the Maize-Saka Corn Banna Corn Cluster Association, Inc.

The activity was led by Mr. Allan Palaspas, Municipal Agriculturist, with the support of Hon. Mayor Mary Chrislyn C. Abadilla. The initiative forms part of the local government’s continuing programs aimed at providing opportunities, support, and better avenues for farmers in the municipality.

During the briefing, farmers were introduced to the importance of organizing into an association, particularly in strengthening cooperation, coordination, and solidarity among corn farmers. The association is envisioned to provide a stronger platform for farmers to work together and access programs, services, and opportunities for agricultural development.

The Municipal Agriculture Office encouraged farmers from various barangays to join and become active members of the Maize-Saka Rice and Corn Cluster Banna Association, Inc. Farmers were also encouraged to participate in the organization’s activities and contribute to its development.

Through collective efforts and stronger coordination, the association aims to help corn farmers access available agricultural programs, technical assistance, livelihood opportunities, and other forms of support that can contribute to improving their productivity and livelihoods.

The initiative reflects the local government’s continued commitment to empowering farmers, strengthening farmer organizations, and promoting the growth and development of the agricultural sector in Banna.

The Municipal Agriculture Office of the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Banna distributed fertilizer and biofertilizer from the Department of Agriculture (DA) to farmers from different associations in the municipality.

The distribution aims to support local farmers by providing farm inputs that can help improve crop growth, soil condition, and farm productivity. The fertilizers are intended to reduce farmers’ production costs and help them maintain healthy and productive farms.

Farmers who attended the event received the agricultural inputs and were reminded to use them properly for their intended purpose.

Municipal Agriculturist Allan Palaspas encouraged the farmers to remain responsible and make good use of the assistance. He said, “𝘈𝘨𝘵𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘯𝘨𝘢 𝘴𝘪𝘱𝘶𝘱𝘶𝘥𝘯𝘰 𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘶𝘴𝘢𝘳𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘢𝘺𝘰 𝘥𝘢𝘨𝘪𝘵𝘰𝘺 Ａ 𝘨𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘨𝘢𝘯 𝘯𝘨𝘢 nasayaat.”

Palaspas also thanked 𝙃𝙤𝙣. 𝙈𝙖𝙮𝙤𝙧 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝘾𝙝𝙧𝙞𝙨𝙡𝙮𝙣 𝘾. 𝘼𝙗𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙖 for her continues support for the yearly distribution of fertilizer. He said the program reflects the municipality’s efforts to strengthen agriculture and help make Banna a model of agricultural development.

The event was also attended by members of the Sangguniang Bayan, who joined the Municipal Agriculture Office in supporting the farmers and the municipality’s agricultural programs.

Through the continued distribution of farm inputs, the LGU Banna and the Department of Agriculture reaffirm their commitment in helping local farmers improve production and strengthen the agricultural sector.

Farmers in Lorenzo and Catagtaguen are set to benefit from a ₱11-million Solar-Powered Irrigation System (SPIS) funded by the Department of Agriculture–Bureau of Soils and Water Management (DA-BSWM).

The project will serve farmer-members of the Lorenzo Small Water Irrigation System Association (SWISA) and provide a more reliable water source for their farms.

The initiative was funded by the DA-BSWM with a total project cost of ₱11 million. Technical support was provided by Engr. Ariel Arenas and the Provincial Agriculture and Biosystems Engineering Office, represented by Engr. Christian and Engr. Johnrey.

Meanwhile, the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Banna, under the leadership of Hon. Mayor Mary Chrislyn C. Abadilla, provided the lot where the irrigation facility was established. This project reflects the municipality’s support for farmers and its efforts to improve agricultural production through better access to irrigation.

With the new facility, farmers are expected to have improved access to water, allowing them to sustain their crops and strengthen their livelihood.

The project also highlights the importance of cooperation among government agencies, the local government, and farmer groups in supporting the agriculture sector.
