SDO Ilocos Sur gears up for simultaneous active attack safety drills

ILOCOS SUR — Schools across the Division of Ilocos Sur are strengthening their emergency response capabilities ahead of the nation-wide Simultaneous School Safety Drill for Active Attack Incidents scheduled for August 25 at 9:00 a.m.

In preparation for the exercise, the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Ilocos Sur convened public and private school heads and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) coordinators in a virtual meeting via Microsoft Teams on August 22.

The orientation focused on the guidelines outlined in a memorandum from the Office of the Secretary and reiterated through Regional Memorandum No. 1059, s. 2026.

Division DRRM Coordinator Asuncion P. Piano detailed the critical phases of the upcoming drill, including stakeholder engagement, contingency planning, simulation procedures, and post-activity reporting mechanisms.

To ensure realistic and coordinated ex*****on, Piano advised school leaders to partner closely with their local Philippine National Police (PNP) stations during the planning and actual conduct of the drills.

During the meeting, Dr. Philip John Gregory G. Aldos, Chief Education Supervisor for the School Governance and Operations Division (SGOD), highlighted the broader responsibility of school administrators in maintaining safe learning environments.

Aldos urged educators to remain vigilant and emphasized the role of proactive student development, particularly mental health initiatives, in preventing violence before it occurs. Supporting mental health programs ensures that teachers, staff, and learners are well-supported and thriving, which helps address underlying issues that could lead to active attack incidents.

With the approval of OIC-Superintendent, Dr. Joye D. Madalipay, CESO VI, and OIC-Assistant Superintendent Dr. Lubeth R. Cabatu, SDOIS DRRM Team facilitated the meeting.

School DRRM coordinators were reminded to continuously monitor official channels and designated group chats for further updates prior to the August 25 exercise.

LUNGSOD NG SAN FERNANDO, La Union — Nagkamit ng karangalan ang Schools Division Office (SDO) ng Ilocos Sur matapos itong maitala bilang dibisyong may pinakamaraming rehistradong user sa DepEd Region 1 Research Portal, na nagbunga ng paggawad dito ng Certificate of Recognition noong Agosto 20 sa DepEd Regional Office I, San Fernando City, La Union.

Pormal na iniharap ni DepEd Regional Office I Director Dr. Estela L. Cariño ang parangal na tinanggap nina OIC-Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Joye D. Madalipay, CESO VI, at OIC-Assistant Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Lubeth R. Cabatu bilang pagkilala sa namumukod-tanging inisyatibo ng dibisyon na palakasin ang pakikilahok ng mga g**o at kawani sa platform.

Batay sa opisyal na tala noong Agosto 13, 2026, lumitaw na ang SDO Ilocos Sur ang nanguna sa lahat ng dibisyon sa buong rehiyon sa dami ng mga gumagamit ng portal.

Pinuri ng DepEd Region 1 ang sustained efforts ng SDO Ilocos Sur sa paghihikayat sa personnel nito na magrehistro, sumangguni sa mga research resources, at magbahagi ng mga evidence-informed practices.

Ang pagkahirang na ito ay nagpapatibay sa dedikasyon ng SDO Ilocos Sur na pangunahan ang pagbuo ng isang matatag na kultura ng pananaliksik at kaalaman sa larangan ng basic education sa buong Rehiyon 1.

Advancing educational research for a stronger region!

Ms. Crystaljane Vinluan, Teacher III of Sinait National High School, successfully presented her research study entitled "Enhancing Skill-Related Fitness Through Laro ng Lahi: A Zero-Cost, Culturally Responsive Intervention for Grade 9 Students" during the 4th Regional Research Forum hosted by the DepEd Regional Office I - Policy, Planning, and Research Division (PPRD) via Facebook Live.

This milestone research was made possible through the funding support of DepEd Region I under the Basic Education Research Fund (BERF) 2024.

Joining her during the forum was her co-researcher, Mr. Francis G. Fernandez (now with the Schools Division Office of Candon City).

DepEd NEU Region I Convenes 3rd Quarter Meeting to Tackle Year-End Benefits and Future Programs

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — Leaders and representatives of the Department of Education National Employees' Union (DepEd NEU) Region I gathered today at the Executive Conference Hall of DepEd Regional Office I for their 3rd Quarter Meeting, tackling key financial reports, upcoming member benefits, and strategic programs for 2026 and 2027.

The daylong conference brought together the Regional Executive Committee, the Regional Board of Trustees, and three designated delegates from every DepEd NEU chapter across the region.

DepEd Region I Director Estela Cariño opened the proceedings with an inspiring message, reaffirming her support for the union’s initiatives and its commitment to public school non-teaching personnel.

Key Agenda and Session Highlights
* Leadership Courtesy Call: Participants formally paid a courtesy call to Regional Director Estela Cariño to align union priorities with regional management goals.

* Financial Transparency: Attendees reviewed the status of the 2025 Collective Negotiation Agreement Incentive (CNAI) Liquidation Report. Regional Treasurer updates on chapter financial standings were presented alongside a comparative analysis of chapter remittances versus downloaded funds.

* Member Welfare & Benefits: Union leaders outlined the rollout of Year-End Benefits for regular members and managed the distribution of the "United for a Cause" raffle tickets.

* Operational Readiness: Representatives received updates regarding the opening and updating of Landbank accounts for all regional chapters to ensure streamlined financial transactions.

* Future Roadmap: Dr. Philip John Gregory Aldos, Chief Education Supervisor and NEU Region I Project Officer, presented the proposed roadmap and activities slated for the third and fourth quarters.

The meeting concluded after an open floor session resolving local chapter issues and addressing other emerging union matters to solidify plans through 2027.
