SDO Ilocos Sur gears up for simultaneous active attack safety drills
ILOCOS SUR โ Schools across the Division of Ilocos Sur are strengthening their emergency response capabilities ahead of the nation-wide Simultaneous School Safety Drill for Active Attack Incidents scheduled for August 25 at 9:00 a.m.
In preparation for the exercise, the Schools Division Office (SDO) of Ilocos Sur convened public and private school heads and Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) coordinators in a virtual meeting via Microsoft Teams on August 22.
The orientation focused on the guidelines outlined in a memorandum from the Office of the Secretary and reiterated through Regional Memorandum No. 1059, s. 2026.
Division DRRM Coordinator Asuncion P. Piano detailed the critical phases of the upcoming drill, including stakeholder engagement, contingency planning, simulation procedures, and post-activity reporting mechanisms.
To ensure realistic and coordinated ex*****on, Piano advised school leaders to partner closely with their local Philippine National Police (PNP) stations during the planning and actual conduct of the drills.
During the meeting, Dr. Philip John Gregory G. Aldos, Chief Education Supervisor for the School Governance and Operations Division (SGOD), highlighted the broader responsibility of school administrators in maintaining safe learning environments.
Aldos urged educators to remain vigilant and emphasized the role of proactive student development, particularly mental health initiatives, in preventing violence before it occurs. Supporting mental health programs ensures that teachers, staff, and learners are well-supported and thriving, which helps address underlying issues that could lead to active attack incidents.
With the approval of OIC-Superintendent, Dr. Joye D. Madalipay, CESO VI, and OIC-Assistant Superintendent Dr. Lubeth R. Cabatu, SDOIS DRRM Team facilitated the meeting.
School DRRM coordinators were reminded to continuously monitor official channels and designated group chats for further updates prior to the August 25 exercise.
