The CLSU Paruparong Bukid is the university's only recognized LGBTQIA+ student organization with a mandate and purpose to champion the rights and recognize the needs of LGBTQIA+ students.
In light of this, our officers met with Dr. Irene G. Bustos, the Dean of the Office of Student Affairs, this morning to clarify and discuss the issue raised on social media about the prohibition on cross-dressing during the upcoming commencement exercises. Based on the meeting, Dean Bustos noted that the graduation protocol has not yet been officially issued. Furthermore, the protocol does not include a clause stating that cross-dressing is not permitted. She added that although CLSU has followed the graduation dress code for many years, this in no way implies that the institution disapproves of the students' gender expression or identities.
With this, we extend an invitation to all LGBTQIA+ graduating students to attend a meeting to further discuss the graduation dress code guidelines. This will be held on July 8, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. via zoom. The University Supreme Student Council, CLSU Paruparong Bukid, and the Office of Student Affairs will convene the said assembly. Meeting link will be posted soon.
