In celebration of Arbor Day 2026 and in response to the Department's call for a simultaneous nationwide tree planting activity, the DENR CENRO Barotac Nuevo spearheaded a localized planting event. The activity took place at a single, strategic location: a graduated CY 2015 National Greening Program (NGP) site, situated in Brgy. Madarag, San Enrique, Iloilo on June 25, 2026.

During the event, a dedicated workforce successfully planted a total of 2,000 seedlings within 1.3-hectare, selecting hardy and ecologically valuable species including Narra, Mahogany, and Raintree to support local reforestation and biodiversity efforts.

The initiative saw an impressive turnout with a total of 208 participants, comprising 132 males and 76 females, highlighting a strong community and inter-agency collaboration. This diverse group represented a wide array of sectors and organizations, including military and defense units such as the 552nd Engineer Construction Battalion of the 53rd Engineer Brigade (Philippine Army) and the Tactical Operation Group 6 (Philippine Air Force). Local governance and environmental offices were well-represented by the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of Madarag, San Enrique, and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of San Enrique. Private sector partners and agricultural groups also heavily contributed, including representatives from the Universal Robina Corporation, Ina Farmers Learning Site & Agri-Farm Inc., Unlioil Corporation, and the San Antonio Farmers Upland Association. Additionally, civic and community groups lent their full support, notably the United Reborn Guardians Inc., The Guardians Brotherhood Incorporated - San Enrique Chapter, and the Citizens Intersectoral Alliance Task Force.
Through the collective strength of these diverse stakeholders, the synchronized tree-planting activity concluded as a resounding success, marking another significant milestone in the region's ongoing commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience.

| DENR Region 6 joins the nation in celebrating Philippine Eagle Week 2026 from June 04-10, 2026, with the theme, "𝘓𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘒𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘪, 𝘓𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘔𝘢𝘺 𝘗𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘭: 𝘚𝘢𝘮𝘢-𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘢 𝘗𝘢𝘳𝘢 𝘴𝘢 𝘗𝘩𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘱𝘱𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘌𝘢𝘨𝘭𝘦." This celebration highlights the importance of protecting the Philippine Eagle - our national bird and a powerful symbol of the country's rich biodiversity and healthy forest ecosystems.

DENR Region 6 calls on everyone to take part in conserving the Philippine Eagle and its natural habitat. Because protecting our wildlife and environment is a shared responsibility, 𝘭𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘬𝘢𝘴𝘢𝘭𝘪, 𝘭𝘢𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘮𝘢𝘺 𝘱𝘢𝘱𝘦𝘭 - from communities and institutions to every Filipino committed to safeguarding our natural heritage for future generations.

CENRO Barotac Nuevo Celebrates the Month of the Ocean 2026!

In observance of the Month of the Ocean this May 2026, CENRO Barotac Nuevo spearheaded a coastal clean-up at Brgy. Dacutan, Dumangas, Iloilo. Guided by the theme, "Sustaining Ocean Health, Sailing Resilient Nation: Sa karagatang masigla, Kaya natin!", the initiative brought together a diverse group of 78 participants, composed of 36 males and 42 females. This multi-sectoral effort saw active involvement from the Philippine Coast Guard, the Philippine Air Force, and the 552nd IB of the Philippine Army, alongside the MENRO Dumangas staff, Barangay Dacutan officials, local Tanods, and 4Ps beneficiaries.

The activity commenced with a brief orientation program to discuss with the participants the ecological importance of the event. During this session, CENRO Barotac Nuevo CDS personnel discussed the critical role of each stakeholder in conservation and then provided technical instructions on the proper segregation of waste. Volunteers were also briefed on how to accurately fill out trash monitoring forms to ensure the data collected could inform future environmental policies.

The cleanup operation proved highly productive, resulting in the collection of 51 sacks of marine debris with a total weight of 265 kilograms. An analysis of the waste revealed that the most prevalent items were plastic cups, food packaging, PET bottles, and Styrofoam fragments—the latter largely originating from local fishing supplies. Additionally, volunteers recovered a concerning variety of non-biodegradable items, including plastic caps, glass bottles, disposable diapers, PVC pipes, fishing nets, rubber slippers, and lighters.

By removing these pollutants, the activity not only improved the immediate health of the Dumangas coastline but also reinforced the spirit of bayanihan among the agencies and the community. This activity reaffirms our commitment to maintaining vibrant oceans and building a more resilient, environmentally conscious nation.

Often misunderstood as mere creatures of the night, flying foxes play an important role in maintaining a healthy environment. As seed dispersers, these large fruit bats are responsible for the regeneration of native trees and the overall health of our ecosystems. Their presence is a key indicator of a thriving natural habitat, yet much remains to be learned about where they are currently established within our local landscapes.

To help gain a clearer picture of their distribution, we are inviting the community to share any knowledge of sightings in your area. If you have observed flying foxes roosting or passing through your neighborhood, simply leaving a comment or sending a message to verify their presence would be incredibly helpful for our ongoing monitoring efforts. Your local insights are invaluable in helping us validate where these remarkable animals are still found, ensuring they continue to thrive alongside us for generations to come.

On April 28, 2026, a significant step toward inter-agency resourcefulness took place at the CENRO Barotac Nuevo Conference Room with the formal signing of a Deed of Donation for confiscated forest products. The agreement involves the turnover of 52 pieces of lumber, totaling 937.18 board feet, to be repurposed for the benefit of our maritime service members. The ceremony was led by CENR Officer Engr. Glenn S. Del Norte and Commo. Loduvico D. Lebrilla, Jr., Commander of the Philippine Coast Guard District Western Visayas.

By donating these forfeited materials, CENRO Barotac Nuevo ensures that resources seized through environmental law enforcement are put to productive use rather than going to waste. This specific volume of lumber will provide essential material support for the Philippine Coast Guard’s ongoing projects and facilities, directly aiding those who protect our regional waters.

This collaboration exemplifies the strong partnership between the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG). It reflects our shared commitment to environmental stewardship and our dedication to supporting fellow government agencies in their mission to serve the public.
