The Municipality of Barotac Viejo successfully conducted its 2nd Quarterly Local Health Board Meeting, presided over by the ever dynamic and staunch public health advocate, Hon. Nielo Bongbong Tupas.

Joining the meeting were key local officials including Vice Mayor, Hon. Vivian Buenavista, Sangguniang Bayan Members Hon. Honielette Engada and Hon. Jesus T. Balila, Liga President. Also present was Dr. Cenon Guiban, Chief of Hospital II, Gov Niel D. Tupas Sr District Hospital.

Representatives from partner agencies actively participated, including the Iloilo Provincial Health Office, Ma’am Maita Demaisip, DMO and PDOHO Iloilo, Sir Jude Onayan, DMO IV.

The meeting was further strengthened by the presence of stakeholders from various sectors such as NAMIAS, Civil Society Organizations, PDAO, the Department of Education, the Armed Forces of the Philippines Community Support Group, MLGOO Sir Vincent Aaron Andaya, Municipal Budget Officer Ma’am April Rose Salvadico, Municipal Assessor, Ma’am Rona Baretto, Dr. Jaspare Barrido, LDRRMO, and MENRO represented by Ma’am Baby Joy Baldelovar.

-Kung indi pa paglutuon, ibutang gilayun sa refrigerator ukon sotrage box nga bastante sa ice(indi mag taas sa 4°C)

-Lutuon gid sang maayo antes iserbe ukon kaunon

Kung makabatyag sang sintomas sang scombroid fish poisoning pareho sang pamula sang panit, sakit sang ulo, pagpalangluya, ukon pagsuka matapos magkaon sang isda, magpakonsulta gilayon sa health center, primary care facility ukon ospital nga pinakamalapit sa inyo lugar.

A ceremonial ribbon cutting marked the opening of the Rabies Awareness Month Symposium in Barotac Viejo, attended by key leaders and partner agencies committed to strengthening rabies prevention efforts.

Messages of support were delivered by Mayor Bongbong Tupas, Municipal Mayor; Hon. Vivian Buenavista, Municipal Vice Mayor; Dr. Rodney Labis, Provincial Health Officer I of the Iloilo Provincial Health Office; Dr Darel Tabuada, Provincial Veterinarian; Dr Jonic Natividad, DA-RFO VI; and Maam Marisil Cabiguin, Provincial Rabies Prevention and Control Program Coordinator.

The symposium featured Dr. Rouena Vivien L. Yonzon, Veterinary Technical Services Manager for Companion Animal of Zoetis Philippines, Malaysia, and Singapore, who delivered a comprehensive and insightful lecture on rabies awareness, prevention, and control.

Also present during the event were Hon Alain Domz Jaranilla, Chairman SB Committee on Health, Hon Fermin Barretto, Chairman SB Committee on Agriculture and Hon Abelardo Engada, Chairman SB Committee on Peace and Order, Iloilo Provincial Health Office Personnel, Provincial Veterinary Office Personnel.

The Barotac Viejo Primary Care Facility 1 and Birthing Center, under the leadership of Dr Ri Ena Rose Bayona-Araño, successfully brought PuroKalusugan services to Brgy. Sto. Domingo, Barotac Viejo, delivering essential health services closer to the community.

In line with the celebration of World TB Day, the Doctor to the Barrios, Dr JP Palomo, emphasized the vision of a TB-free community through a health education session on tuberculosis prevention, early detection, and proper treatment. Free diagnostic services and treatment were also made accessible to the residents.

Strengthening preventive care, Dr. Ellaine Rose Ortizo led the Cancer Control Team in conducting cervical cancer screening, promoting early detection and women’s health awareness.

A wide range of services was offered, benefiting numerous community members:
• Medical Consultation – 112 patients
• Chest X-ray – 243 clients
• Cervical Cancer Screening – 13 clients
• Diabetic Screening – 65 clients
• GeneXpert Testing – 32 clients
• Circumcision Services – 24 beneficiaries
• Nutrition Services – 9 clients
• Dental Services – 96 clients
• Haircut Services – 56 beneficiaries
• Optical Services – 30 clients

The success of the activity was made possible through the collaboration of partner agencies, including the Philippine Tuberculosis Society, Inc., Philippine Dental Association, DOH HRH Team, Philippine Army – Civil Military Operations Medical Team, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fire Protection, Barangay Sto. Domingo led by Brgy. Captain Ian Mauricio, BHW Federation, and Glory of God Christian Church.

This reflects the continuing commitment of the local health system to bring accessible, equitable, and quality primary health care to every barangay.
