BAROTAC VIEJO STRENGTHENS DRUG FREE WORKPLACE PROGRAM THROUGH WELLNESS AND DRUG PREVENTION ADVOCACY
The Municipality of Barotac Viejo conducted the Workplace Wellness and Drug Prevention Advocacy Program on June 23, 2026 at the Barotac Viejo Municipal Gym.
This activity brought together approximately 200 participants composed of municipal officials, department heads and employees, Punong Barangays and barangay officials, representatives from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and other partner stakeholders committed to advancing a drug free workplace and community.
In his message, Mayor Nielo "Bongbong" Tupas reaffirmed the Municipal Government's commitment to promoting a healthy, safe, and productive working environment founded on integrity, accountability, and excellence in public service. He emphasized that maintaining a drug free workplace is not only a policy requirement but also a responsibility of every public servant in preserving the trust and confidence of the people. Mayor Tupas likewise encouraged all officials and employees to continue supporting programs that protect the welfare of government workers and contribute to the overall safety and well being of the community.
Further, DILG Cluster Head Grace Natalie N. Azarraga commended the Municipality of Barotac Viejo for its continued efforts in promoting a drug free workplace and strengthening employee wellness programs. She emphasized that maintaining a workplace free from illegal drugs is a shared responsibility and encouraged all officials and employees to remain committed to upholding integrity, accountability, and excellence in public service.
A major highlight of the activity was the conduct of drug testing among municipal officials, barangay officials, and municipal personnel. A total of 152 participants underwent drug testing in accordance with established policies and procedures. The undertaking served as a concrete demonstration of the Municipality's commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical governance.
The drug testing activity was facilitated by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency Iloilo Provincial Office, headed by Chief Chemist Adonis Abueva, together with Chemist I Nerah Sancho and Intelligence Officers Denes Ayuman, Mark Eduardo, Darlene Grace Cainday, and Glen Eramil. The PDEA team ensured the proper and orderly conduct of the testing process while providing guidance on the implementation of drug prevention initiatives in the workplace.
All elected municipal officials who participated in the activity tested negative for illegal drug use. The program also provided participants with valuable information on the harmful effects of illegal drugs, the importance of workplace wellness, and the shared responsibility of government agencies, local officials, employees, and communities in sustaining anti-drug abuse efforts. Through discussions and advocacy messages, participants were encouraged to remain vigilant and actively support programs that contribute to a safer and healthier municipality.
The successful conduct of the activity is part of the Municipality's commitment to maintaining a drug free workplace and ensuring that public servants uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.
