1 NPA killed in a clash with government forces in Samar
BORONGAN CITY, Eastern Samar – Troops of 63rd Infantry (INNOVATOR) Battalion under the operational control of the 802nd Infantry (PEERLESS) Brigade of the 8th Infantry (STORMTROOPERS) Division, Philippine Army neutralized one (1) NPA member and recovered one (1) high-powered firearm with ammunitions during an encounter that transpired in the afternoon of September 25, 2023 at the vicinity of Sitio Salvacion, Barangay San Nicolas, San Jose de Buan, Samar.
The said encounter which lasted for about twenty (20) minutes was the third of a series of running gun battles between the operating troops of 63IB under the supervision of Lieutenant Colonel Lucio R Janolino and more or less fifteen (15) NPAs believed to be members of Yakal Platoon, Sub-Regional Committee “BROWSER” that operates in the hinterlands of the western portion of Samar Island. Known locations of communist NPA remnants are the targets of massive focused military operations of government forces that resulted from collated information given by the communities and local governments in the area that are continuously being threatened by the said terrorist groups.
“We are optimistic that with the timely information provided by the local residents in the area, our troops will locate and hit their targets including the formations of the remnants of the NPA terrorist. The cooperation of the communities and the local leaders is a clear manifestation of the dwindling support of the masses that would eventually cut their alliance and ties with the CPP-NPA-NDF terrorists”. Brigadier General Noel A Vestuir, the Commander of the 802nd Infantry (Peerless) Brigade, pointed out.
“This is a wake-up call to our Waraynon brothers who are still wandering in the hinterlands fighting with the terrorist NPA for an obsolete and violent ideology. Now is the time to abandon your life of terror and danger in exchange for well-spent quality living with your families at the comforts of your home. I also call on the families of remaining NPA members to save your loved ones from peril and encourage them to heed to the popular clamor of laying down their arms and join the bandwagon for peace. I personally assure you that your relatives in the NPA will not be harmed nor harrassed should they return to the mainstream society but rather, they will be treated as brothers and sisters and the whole of government is committed to capacitate and prepare them for their reunion with their families, friends, and neighbors in the community.” BGen Vestuir added.
