In preparation for a better, safer, and more enjoyable Mayor’s Cup 2026, the Organizing Committee announces the rescheduling of the Mayor’s Cup Open Basketball Tournament 2026 to September 15–22, 2026.

The adjustment is necessary to give ample time for the ongoing major improvement and enhancement works at the Basey Municipal Gymnasium, ensuring that the venue will be in its best possible condition for our participating teams, players, coaches, officials, and supporters.

We sincerely appreciate everyone’s patience, understanding, and continued excitement as we prepare for an even better Mayor’s Cup 2026. 🏀

The Municipal Youth Development Office (MYDO) actively joined the Safe School Advocacy during the Linggo ng Kabataan celebration of Barangay Can-manila at Bangon Elementary School, promoting a safe, respectful, and caring environment for children and young people.

The activity featured an engaging discussion led by SK Federation President Hon. Aljo Cabos Gaw , together with LYDO Rhoy Odal Avila, where learners were reminded of the importance of kindness, respect, responsibility, and standing against bullying and violence.

Through this initiative, MYDO continues to support Mayor Luz Basas Chu Ponferrada’s commitment to protecting children and empowering the youth to become responsible and compassionate members of the community.

The activity was made possible through the support of SK Chairperson Vincente Sabino and the Sangguniang Kabataan Council, the Barangay Can-Manila Council headed by Punong Barangay Gregorio Gadores, and School Principal Brian Baclayo.

🏆 SOUTH YOUTH ZONE IS THE SIRAK KABATAAN DAY 2026 OVERALL CHAMPION! 🏆

A proud and historic victory for the South Youth Zone — Sta. Rita, Basey, and Marabut as they were hailed Overall Champion during the SIRAK Kabataan Day 2026, held on August 11, 2026, in Catbalogan City, celebrating the 5th Anniversary of SIRAK’s Youth Service for all Samarnon.

The South Youth Zone proudly secured the following placements in the SIRAK Day Major Competitions:

🥇 Champion – Cheer Competition
🥈 2nd Place – Field Demo Competition
🥈 2nd Place – Booth Exhibition
🥈 2nd Place – SIRAK Jeopardy
🥉 3rd Place – Biggest and Loudest Contingent

This achievement is a testament to the unity, dedication, creativity, and teamwork of the youth from Sta. Rita, Basey, and Marabut. More than the awards, this victory celebrates the strength of collaboration and the spirit of service among the Samarnon youth. 💪✨

Our heartfelt gratitude to PLGU Samar, under the leadership of Governor Sharee Ann Tan, and the Provincial Youth, Education, and Sports Development Office (PYESDO) led by Sir Jhunlie Escala, for continuously providing meaningful platforms and opportunities for the youth through SIRAK Kabataan Day.

We also extend our deepest appreciation to the LYDOs of the South Youth Zone — Maria Teresa Flores of Sta. Rita, Rhoy O. 1. Open to all Baseynon youth ages 15-30 years old.
2. Only 10 contestants will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
3. All artwork must be created on-site during the official competition period.

𝗘𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀
1. Participants must bring their own laptop or tablet and necessary accessories (charger,
mouse, extension wire, etc.).
2. Internet access may be provided only for uploading the final output. Participants are
encouraged to have all necessary software installed prior to the event.
3. Any digital art software may be used (e.g., Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator,
Microsoft Paint, or similar applications).

𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿
1. Participants shall create one (1) original digital poster based on the theme which will be
disclosed before the competition starts.
2. Participants will be given six (6) hours to complete their artwork. All entries must be
submitted on or before 5:00 PM on the day of the contest.
3. The artwork must be original, unpublished, and must not have won in any previous
competition. Any form of plagiarism, copy infringement, or unauthorized use of another
person’s work shall result in automatic disqualification.
4. AI-generated images or artwork are strictly prohibited. AI-assisted features that
automatically generate the artwork are not allowed. Basic editing tools (crop, color
correction, brushes, layers, etc.) are permitted.

The artwork must be submitted in:
○ PNG or JPEG format ○ Minimum resolution: 300 DPI
○ 297mm × 420mm (A3 size)

1. Entries containing offensive, discriminatory, obscene, or plagiarized content shall be
automatically disqualified.
2. Participants shall observe proper decorum throughout the competition. Technical

4. Once submitted, entries become part of the documentation and promotional materials of
the organizers, with proper acknowledgment of the creator.
5. The decision of the Board of Judges is final and irrevocable.

The Municipality of Basey (South Samar Youth Zone), prepares for the upcoming SIRAK Day 2026 on August 11, 2026, in Catbalogan City.

The South Samar Youth Zone is composed of the municipalities of Basey, Marabut, and Sta. Rita, working together to ensure that their young participants are ready and prepared for the upcoming competitions.

Special thanks to Mayor Luz Chu-Ponferrada, LYDO Rhoy O. Avila, SK Federation President Hon. Aljo Cabos Gaw, SIRAK Coordinators Dorleen Cabantac, Victhony Bert Regahal, and Leo Viojan, and PYAP-Basey Federation President Engr. Lara Mae Sumayod for their continued support and assistance in the preparations.

LYDO Rhoy O. Avila continues to oversee the needs and preparations of the youth, ensuring that the delegation is well-equipped, confident, and ready to represent the South Samar Youth Zone.

On August 4, 2026, at the Municipal Youth Development Office, Mr. John Edward Abgao, President of the Rizal Youth Organization, visited LYDO Rhoy O. Avila and SIRAK Coordinator Hon. Dorleen Cabantac for an organization consultation and Youth Organization Registration Program (YORP) registration.

This initiative is part of the continuous efforts of the MLGU-Basey, under the leadership ofMayor Luz Chu-Ponferrada, to strengthen and empower youth organizations by providing guidance and support for their growth and active participation in community development.

The Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Basey, under the leadership of Mayor Luz Basas Chu Ponferrada together with Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office headed by Engr. Rowena Olfato, successfully conducted the Pangandaman Forum, yesterday, July 24, 2026 at Basey Municipal Gymnasium, as part of the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month 2026, reaffirming its commitment to building a safer, more prepared, and disaster-resilient community.

The forum gathered government agencies, disaster risk reduction experts, youth organizations, and community stakeholders to discuss disaster preparedness, hazard awareness, relief operations, and the vital role of local governance in strengthening community resilience. The event also featured an open forum, recognition of DRR advocates, the Pangandaman Excellence Awards, and the launch of the Kaandaman Kabataan 3.0 Resilience Camp.

The Municipal Youth Development Office (MYDO) played an active role in mobilizing and engaging the youth sector, highlighting the importance of empowering young people as partners in disaster preparedness and community resilience.
