Major factor is the continuing hot and dry weather due to the El Niรฑo Phenomenon, the risk of fire incidents increases. The City Government of Surigao urges every Surigaonon to remain vigilant and take extra precautions.

Let us help prevent another fire from happening:
* Never leave candles, stoves, or open flames unattended.
* Do not burn grass, leaves, garbage, or other combustible materials.
* Check electrical wires, outlets, and connections regularly.
* Keep dry leaves, trash, and other flammable materials away from your home.
* Report damaged or sparking electrical posts immediately.
* At the first sign of smoke or fire, alert others and contact the BFP.
* Evacuate immediately and never put yourself at risk.

Fire prevention is EVERYONEโ€™s responsibility.

CHO Support for Fire-Affected Families in Barangay Nabago

On August 9, 2026, a fire erupted in Barangay Nabago, Surigao City, destroying 44 houses and displacing numerous families. Unfortunately, three Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) were among the victims.

In support of our BHWs and other affected families, the City Health Office personnel extended assistance by collecting and donating used clothing for children and adults, blankets, pillows, sleeping mats, rice and cash donations. The collected donations were distributed by Ms. Margie Evilla, BHW Coordinator.

In addition, the CHO Sanitation Division provided and delivered 44 Hygiene Kits to the affected families to help address their immediate sanitation and personal hygiene needs.

This initiative reflects the CHO's commitment to stand with our frontliners and the community, especially during times of crisis, and to extend care and support beyond the delivery of health services.
